Do you tip your mailperson for Christmas

My mother always tipped our mailman as a kid. And we got the usual mail, nothing crazy.


She also taped cash to the trash cans around Christmas (this was back when you paid for trash pickup with checks taped to the trash cans)

I would imagine your mom is an exception to the rule.I don't think this is a widespread deal and I certainly think a lot of people here would only feel its worth it because they have so much riding on the mail all the time.

Maybe so.Not sure.I just can't see it being as widespread as people are making it out to be.Most people have very little interaction with their mail person.I could drive around my neighborhood(I actually have because I went looking for the mail person because they dropped a pink slip in my box) and nobody was home.Maybe a few people here and there but there just isn't the kind of interaction to form any kind of relationship.Plus...its never been a tippable type of job.Just like others have mentioned...do you even think about tipping someone at McDonalds?No.I could see if it has been the same mail carrier for the last 20 years and you know them.But with the advent of both spouses working and nobody at home when the mail is delivered(for a decent amount of people anyways)...there just isn't a relationship.I actually pay for trash pickup around here and half the time...they don't even pick all my stuff up.But I get billed every month like clockwork.I pay them.I pay every time I send something off in the mail.

I don't think its bad.I just think it depends on the person and what kind of relationship they have or how giving they are.

My wife and I gave our mailman and our UPS driver their Xmas gifts. My mailman is such a nice guy. Always smiling and joking with people. Always talking sports with me. He doesn't just drop my packages at my door or stuff them in my mailbox, he makes sure I get them in hand. UPS driver is just as nice and always makes sure I get my stuff. Living in apt's can be hazardous for mail and deliveries. It's good to know I have two people looking out for my items. So it's worth it for me to spend a few dollars once a year on them.

It would be nice if some of you, who argue just to hear yourselves think and too puff up your chests, take the time to think about just being a decent human being for a day - instead of the scumbags you seem to be on the boards day in and day out. Though I have a strong suspicion that it's a simple matter of trying to be the class badass, the rebel, the guy who bucks the system, just to show off for your little internet buddy's.

I don't understand why I need to know every single case to have a broad view of anything.Apparently some people feel that if you can't generalize something 100%(which is impossible by the way) then you can't generalize at all.I don't agree.That's all.If I had the time...I'd start asking everybody I could find some of the questions a lot of you here on the boards seem to think is common knowledge.I seriously think you guys like to throw exceptions to things out there just to throw a cog in the wheel.So be it.Have fun with that.It also doesn't make someone a scrooge to not tip a person at a freaking job they don't get tips at.I mean...if you can't understand that...then I guess you are just as bad for not feeding every single homeless person you ever see or helping every person you ever see.And chances are you don't and won't.So give the high and mighty routine a rest.


As far as what NCYrulesU says...I don't see everyone here acting like a bad person nor do I see anyone trying to act like some kind of badass or rebel.I think I am a pretty good person I will help people out.I think others are the same.I guess yiu think people try to show off for others here.I don't feel like I have ever done that(save for posting some cards at times) because 90% of the time someone like you comes along and ruins any chance of being able to even have a debate or conversation let alone if someone was trying to show off.So why do it if it doesn't work?The point is...nobody is trying to show off.You know what I see...I see a lot of people here like some of the friends I used to hang out in high school with.They knew everything and were just chomping at the bit to try to throw a cog in any idea or thought you had.Always trying to argue a point with no intention in mind rather than to stir the pot.But hey...don't worry...I will continue to feel like a badass rebel for not tipping my mail carrier and then posting about it on a board full of people I will never meet.Because people do that all the time because it makes them feel better.Honestly...I think some of you take this board more seriously than the very people you claim that live by it.
