I've had it with PSA! You might remember the fiasco I went through with getting my Eddie Mathews RC graded a few months ago.

I get a stack of 1911 Turkey Reds in low-med shape, nothing special & nothing high $. So I figure PSA would be the way to go (i know, my first mistake). I fill out the submission form. On it next to the $15 regular service is says, and I quote,

"all supersized cards must be submitted at this service level or higher"

I'm pretty sure I know what the word ALL means.

So I pack up the cards & ship to PSA via Registered US Mail, etc etc.

This morning I get the following email:

Warren Wolk,

In order to further process submission 673174 we need to do the following:

You submitted Turkey Red T3's under the $15 Regular Service which does not qualify. The cheapest we can offer for this type of card is $60 Super Express. We will need authorization to charge an additional $720 to the credit card listed.

Please reply back at your earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Sonia Luque

Collectors Universe Inc.

to which I reply:

Hi Sonia,

This is very disappointing. It says clearly on the submission form" all supersized cards must be submitted at this service level or higher" under the $15 "regular service". The cards I send you surely fall into the category.

Please advise.

PSA's reply:

This card is not considered supersized.

Cmon PSA, I was born at night, but not LAST NIGHT.

Here's how I left it:

Hi Sonia,

I'd have to disagree, the cards are indeed supersized. I'll leave it in PSA's park - the right thing to do would be to honor your statement of "all supersized cards must be submitted at this service level or higher" from the regular service section of the form. I surely don't want to argue on this Holiday week. I thought you'd grade them for $250, that's the only reason I sent them. Theyre simply not worth enough to pay $1000 to grade them - they are not high-grade cards.

If you won't honor the wording on the form then please kindly ship them back to me right away, and just charge me for the return shipping.

I hope you'll reconsider at this point, but do what you have to do. I'm hoping that I can rely on PSA for my future grading needs - at this point that is up to you as well. I have another order ready to go with a stack of 1940 Playball cards.

Best Regards & Happy Holidays,

Warren Wolk

If they don't do right by me on this I will cancel my club membership & never send them another nickel.

Does anyone know if BGS does Turkey-Red sized cards? I hope so. The Eddie Mathews went to BGS & I was extremely happy with the results.

I'm fed up with PSAs treatment of me!

On the PSA submission form it says:

SUPER EXPRESS $60 2 BUSINESS DAYS
(Autographed Cards: 20 business days)
Any card with a declared value of $2,000 - $4,999 and all T3s must be submitted at this service level or higher. This includes autographed cards.

That seems pretty expensive and a bit misleading to plug that part in above the part that you quoted. Hope you get it sorted out.

$60 is crazy considering 2 day service isn't even guaranteed, BGS looks like they charge a $8 extra per item for grading costs depending what service level you go with, seems a lot cheaper...

You should see how much extra SGC charges to grade them. Go that route if it's not much more expensive.

You should submit any pre-war cards to SGC anyway.

I agree with this as well. On top of a good company to work with, I really like the offsetting black in their holder.

SGC actually goes out of their way to make the customer happy. I've sent a high end card once under the wrong service level, they corrected everything at their expense.

true that, there was a storry on here when a guys card failed, he lived near by them and picked it up and wanted to submit it at the 15 service level, they graded it right there and then

I'd go with SGC as well. I do think you are being a bit harsh on PSA though, since they do list T3's specifically under the other service level. Their submission forms could be a bit easier and clearer, but it was your error, not theirs.

Thanks for all the input guys, greatly appreciated!

I gotta tell you, when BVG graded my Mathews RC I was thrilled with the end result. 707 had PSA 5's rotting on Ebay at $3k, and my bvg5 went for 3500 in open auction. I expected about a grand less so you can see why.

I talked to BGS about the issue today. They are very receptive & welcoming & 75% cheaper than PSA. Plus they made my store a hub & I get a great deal for me & my customers. Cool also.

It's $8 extra per oversized card, rather than $45 extra lmao. PSA is off my list. I will check out sgc for sure before I decide where Im sending these.

I also just came into a big stack of 40 Playballs with sweet Ted Williams & Hank Greenbergs. Should I go sgc or bgs on those types?

I personally would do anything pre-1933 with SGC and anything after that PSA. 707's pricing is ridiculous, but you probably would have gotten more for the Matthews had it been in a PSA holder (I know what happened).

yes but your Mathews Rc was 52, this is not.
t206 bvg does very poorly, and so does 40. i would go with sgc for both of them, or you could go with jeff550 grading service ;)

You don't bother reading their grading policies, nor their prices, nor anything else. Then you get mad at THEM when YOU incorrectly assume what is and what isn't considered 'supersize'?

You are a *******. Everyone who has submitted vintage to PSA or knows anything about T3's knows it costs far more to grade them.

Please post your eBay ID. I want to make sure I NEVER do business with someone as stupid as you

Are you kidding me man, is it really necessary to flame the guy this badly? So the guy didnt read the fine print, a lot of us make that mistake sometimes. He learned that PSA wasn't the way to go on this order, and will be submitting elsewhere. Calling him a *******, and stupid on top of that is just crass and rude. How about you give us YOUR Ebay ID so we avoid having to deal with you???

You truly cannot help yourself can you? Is it an Internet personality thing or do you approach everyone you speak to with such class and integrity? I really want to know your mindset when you think it's ok anywhere to run your mouth as you obviously don't see it makes only you look like a fool.

the way to make things like this go away is to not even respond to it. Most posts like that are people who just looking for attention. If everyone act as if that post never existed, that problem will either go away or I'm sure the site owners will make it go away.

Now, back to the topic, i only deal with PSA when it comes to PSA/DNA (due to my current boycott of BGS since they can never get my order right). I've heard a lot of complaints from PSA customers, but grading is a marketing thing anyways.
