A's have signed 3rd rounder B.A. Vollmuth for $304,200, according to Callis.

Also, the Cubs have signed 7th rounder Trevor Gretzky for $375,000.

Gretzky will be out of baseball in two years.

Re: Draft Picks Official Signings Thread

Aarne & Braden --- uh oh.

From Jonathan Mayo:

Blue Jays, Beede agree to disagree
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, it seems nearly certain that Blue Jays top pick (No. 21 overall) Tyler Beede will not join the organization and will honor his commitment to Vanderbilt University.

The right-hander from Massachusetts was thought to be a tough sign heading into the Draft, with commitments to Vanderbilt particularly hard to talk a high schooler out of honoring. The Jays, in an early sign they would be very aggressive in the Draft, took Beede with their first selection. It turned out to be the first of several intriguing picks for Toronto. The Blue Jays have yet to sign any of their five selections in the first two rounds.

If, indeed, Beede does head to Vanderbilt and negotiations are done, perhaps Toronto can focus attention on second-round pick Daniel Norris, another high schooler believed to be a tough sign.

Beede would continue a trend of New England talent heading to Tennessee to join Vanderbilt’s program. Beede would be eligible for the Draft again in 2014.

The deadline for signings is on Aug. 15 at midnight (technically, Aug. 16), so there remains a small glimmer of hope that the two sides could resume discussions and Beede could become a Blue Jay. That certainly has happened in the past, with plenty of movement occurring with the pressure of the deadline looming. But if the deadline were right now, it certainly sounds as if Toronto would go without their top pick. If that holds true, they would receive compensation in the 2012 Draft at pick 21A, the 22nd pick in the first round as of right now.

Meh. Not worried. There have been so many rumours of a pre-draft deal that I'd be surprised if things had fallen apart. Anyway, if the don't sign him, oh well.

Re: Draft Picks Official Signings Thread

There have been a lot of rumors floating around, definitely none from the Jays camp as AA is pretty tight lipped. The Jays are prepared to fork over some serious cash. If they are close (within a couple hundred K) they should sign all of the players that they are targetting. I'd be surprised if Beede doesn't sign. Norris , Dean and Comer should hopefully sign as well. There are a couple tough signs that definitely won't sign but the Jays should land a significant number of them.

Dodgers To Sign First Rounder Chris Reed
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 12, 2011 at 7:23am CST]
The Dodgers have agreed to terms with first rounder Chris Reed, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. Agent Scott Boras represents Reed.

The 6'5" left-hander posted a 1.80 ERA in 45 innings of relief as a junior at Stanford last year. However, the Dodgers see him as a starter in the Major Leagues, Cassavell reports. Be sure to track every top pick's status with MLBTR's list.

Update: Reed obtains a $1.589MM bonus, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (on Twitter). That appears to be slightly over slot.

Jays sign 3rd rounder John Stilson for 500K. Oh yeah. Stilson was projected to go in the first rd but dropped due to injury. It is possible the Jays could spend 15-20MM this year. AA has already achieved the Jedi Master level, what is above that?

Anyone hearing anything about the Pirates and Josh Bell? I heard they may offer up to 4 million for a signing bonus.

Everyone is saying he will not sign, and that even an 8-figure contract won't get the job done.

How funny would it be if he proved them all wrong.

They have to offer him top 5 signing bonus money because that's basically what he would get 3 years from now. I understand the kid wants to go to college but there is no way anyone should pass up 4 million now when you have no idea where you're going to be 3 years from now.

I'm going to say Comer?

Really disappointed the Mets haven't been signing some of their lower picks (rounds 11-20).

Most of the signings should be tomorrow.

EDIT- It looks like Anthony DeSclafani also signed. Jays 6th Rd pick. Biggs was the Jays 8th rounder.

Jays 1st Rd Supp, Dwight Smith Jr. signed. Sounds like a big $$ agreement. Oh yeah. Me likey all these signings. Jays still have Beede, Comer, Norris, Chin, Dean, Lopez, Suarez, Garza left from the first 10 rounds to sign.

Phillies have signed their top pick.

Phillies Sign Top Draft Pick Greene
By Tim Dierkes [August 14, 2011 at 11:55pm CST]
The Phillies signed top draft pick Larry Greene, tweets Baseball America's John Manuel. Greene, a high school outfielder, was drafted 39th overall in the supplemental round as part of the compensation for the loss of Jayson Werth. He received a $1MM bonus, the largest amount so far outside of the first round. The Phillies' first-round pick, #33 overall, went to the Rangers for Cliff Lee.

Less than 15 hours and counting.

Heyman reports the M's don't seem to be close to signing Hultzen as of now, but that's "not shocking".
