If you could have any 9 players start for your team, who would they be and what is the batting order?

All-time would be boring, IMHO, since its just "stats and stories", so instead:
In my lifetime, sincd i am an expert on that, I would go like this:
1. Henderson LF
2. Morgan 2B
3. Gwynn RF
4. Reggie DH
5. Griffey CF
6. Carew 1B
7. Brett 3B
8. Arod SS
9. Bench C

I agree somewhat about the in our lifetime players. But I think I'd take Teddy Ballgame and The Say Hey Kid in any era.

I guess that with Ruth pitching, you would need no DH controversy.

Guys I've seen play...

P: Randy Johnson (Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, and Steve Carlton were the toughest omissions and would fill out the rotation)
C: Pudge Rodriguez (Bench was past his prime when I started watching baseball circa 1983)
1B: Albert Pujols (Todd Helton, Frank Thomas, Joey Votto are runners up)
2B: Ryne Sandberg (Robbie Alomar was probably better, but it's my team and Ryno is a HOFer. Joe Morgan wasn't elite when I saw him)
3B: Miguel Cabrera (Jack Schmidt is a very close runner up)
SS: Derek Jeter (ARod was a better player, but his drama is something I'd rather not deal with. Ripken also considered)
LF: Rickey Henderson (Over Bonds because this team needs a lead-off hitter more than another slugger and Rickey is the best of all time)
CF: Ken Griffey, Jr. (Kirby Puckett is the runner up. McCutchen is excellent too.)
RF: Tony Gwynn (Perfect two hitter for the team. Vlad Guerrero and Ichiro are the runners up)

Batting Order:

1. Henderson
2. Gwynn
3. Cabrera
4. Pujols
5. Griffey
6. I. Rodriguez
7. Jeter
8. Sandberg
9. R. Johnson

If we have a DH, Bonds is the guy and bats fourth, with everyone after him shifting down a spot in the order.

In my lifetime:

1. Henderson LF
2. Sandberg 2B
3. Griffey Jr. CF
4. Bonds RF
5. Pujols 1B
6. Schmidt 3B
7. ARod SS
8. Pudge C
9. Maddux P

I had to hold my nose on a few those, but these are the guys I'd trot out there if I could.

If I could walk onto my personal Field of Dreams, these would be the guys playing. Not who I think is best at the position, but who I'd like to see play. Hard to imagine Cap Anson standing next to Jackie Robinson on the right side of the infield though!

1B) Cap Anson
2B) Jackie Robinson
SS) Rabbit Maranville
3B) Brooks Robinson
LF) Willie Stargell
CF) Hack Wilson
RF) Babe Ruth
C) Yogi Berra
P) Satchel Paige

My favorite so far. Only change I'd make is Eddie Taubensee at catcher. Why? Because I love Eddie Taubensee and who needs a catcher that hits with a line up like that!

Coincidentally Junior Griffey is the only player in my 9 who never played for the Yankees or Cardinals.
