If he hits 40+ HR this season, he will have 6 consecutive 40+HR seasons...isn't that some sort of record??

Who would you suggest he signed with? Dunn signed for $20 million over 2 years. I wouldn't exactly call that going where the money is, considering his talent level.

No kidding. I'm pissed the Sox didn't jump on him, especially after seeing how Ortiz now has a power rating of zero.

there was no market for him to sign in.. most of the top teams didn't even want him despite his offensive numbers. to me an American league team would have got a great deal at that price for a full time DH and occasional outfielder. I think his strikouts really hurt him though in most people eyes but he does have some ol country boy power.

Where has Ortiz power gone? Kind of strange.

He hasn't been the same since he hurt his wrist. whether its still a physical problem or has become a mental problem, he is pretty much useless at the plate right now

i agree that most of it has something to do with his wrist. he is a bigger guy and it must take alot of force to swing as hard as he does. but i also think not having manny hitting behind him has a little to do with it. regardless of how good bay does, he is nowehere as feared as manny is.

I disagree. First off, Youkilis is hitting behind him and he has been arguably the best hitter in the AL this far. Maybe not quite the protection that Manny brought but Ortiz is missing pitches he used to live for 2 years ago. He is being blown away by 87 mph high fastballs.

Yea, it just drains the power and slows down your swing just enough to make a difference. Nomar has at least been able to be a marginal non power hitter, but Ortiz is screwed if he has lost all of his power and bat speed

I think strike outs are overrated if your overall OBP is good. Especially if you are mashing. Dunn draws enough walks to compensate for the Ks.

I agree...a walk is almost as good as a single, unless of course there are men on....not enough credit is given for the walk imho....when someone has on OBP of 400+, that is a force to be reckoned with! :!:

I would not even consider anyone 'on pace' for anything till atleast half the season is over. But to entertain this thread, I'l lsimply say NO.

Hard to argue with a guy who has hit 40 5 years in a row (as far as hitting 40 again.) I do think he's entirely underrated and can't believe that there aren't any GM's who realized his OBP easily makes up for his K's and low BA (same for Burrell.)

What good team was offering him a decent contract?

I will be surprised if Dunn keeps up the 40 year totals in Washington. Isn't that park more of a pitchers yard and deeper fences? Great American Ballpatk in Cincinnati was home run haven. Short right field, ball carries very well and is always at the top or neat the top for easiest home run park in baseball.
