Interesting trade. The Eagles get an athletic LB and the Lions add another solid TE. Pettigrew and Shafter should be a great pairing.

Sounds like a steal for the Eagles. Sheffler's okay but was clearly unhappy. Broncos only get a 5th out of the deal though? Yikes. Established players have really been devalued in the new NFL haven't they? To think the players thought no cap would be a goldrush for them....

Stupid on the part of the Lions.

Schefter reported that the Lions either did not want to offer Sims a new contract after this season so they traded him while they could. A 5th rounder seem slow for a guy w/ no legal or personal issues.

I know Pettigre isn't a game breaker but he's a good receiver as well as a great blocker.

I just think this is an absolute steal for the Eagles if Sims can stay healthy

As a Cowboys fan I'm not happy about the pick-up. Sims is a pretty fast LB.

Extremely fast, what he lacks in size definitely is made up by his quickness but he might have some trouble bringing Felix down ;)

I like the 2 TE set that the Lions will be able to run now with Scheffler and Pettigrew. Should help them run the ball more effectively. However, I would have just let Sims run out his contract and take the compensatory pick (if there was one).

McDaniels looks to just have completed trading everyone he didn't like from the previous regime. I hope they take a certain TE early.

I read Pettigrew is going to be on the PUP list to start the season.

Does this mean Detroit has a need at LB now? Or do they have someone they have been grooming?

Pettigrew depends oh who you listen to. They have said that he will be ready and that he wont so who Knows.
As for the LB, they have a few young guys Levy, Dizon. But In my opinon sims was the best they had.

One thing you should never, EVER give up in today's NFL is a young, fast linebacker. Good move by the Eagles, not sure what the Lions are thinking. Scheffler had 1 decent year for the Broncos but didn't do much of anything last year. I think a 5th rounder for him is about right.

Is this a precursor to a draft day trade? Lions give #2 for Denvers #11 and their extra 2nd round pick? Denver takes Suh, Detroit takes McClain at 11 and obtains an extra 2nd round pick?

Purely speculation........ but I can see McDaniels doing something ritarded like this.

I dont know man,
But I know the Lions need help on the o-line like now. So I would not be surprised if they took okung with second pick

This draft is RICH with OL depth. If they didnt trade down, I could not see them passing up on either Suh or McCoy. That would be obsurd. Whst their 2nd round position? They can still get first round talent in the 2 nd round with this OL draft class.

The problem I see is they brought 2 good d-line guys in on the offseason. I would lokve to see them trade down and pickup a few more picks abd some nice o-line kater on.
But I have no clue what the heck goes on in the minds of the Lions. :?

Mayhew is also doing the same thing trading away all the players that didnt fit in the system he was going for. Sims wasnt gonna resign with detroit so they got the most value they could out of him. Does grabbing another TE and a 7th round pick seem strange. Yes but i have to believe that another trade is in the works. Sims was prone to injury an not a good fit in detroit. He is undersized for a OLB but runs with great speed an can hit. I dont think defensively he is a defensive QB or even a captain of the defense for that matter. But if you have a solid front 6 he can be that 7th guy for you. I think the Eagles did well in getting him a didnt give up much for him the team that i believe got screwed was Denver.

I dont think Okung would be smart at #2. He isnt blowing anyone away where people think he will be anything close to Jake long or even Joe Thomas. If Detroit is smart they find someone to trade down a few slots with an grab the best player avalible. I dont see much difference between a few of the OT's there isnt someone who is head and shoulders about the rest Okung just is leading the pack. This is a deep OT and DT draft. If detroit stays at the number 2 pick we need to decide between McCoy and Suh. We run a 4-3 defense an need to pick the DT that would work best in this style D and i believe that is gonna be McCoy.

Our second round pick will most likely be traded away. With a whole night to figure out a trade partner a team with mulitple picks in the 2nd round like the patriots will make a trade to move up.

Lastly OLB Detroit has Levy and Dizon. I believe they will be targeting one in this draft with there 2nd round pick now. I also believe that Keith Bullocks the old Tenn Titan OLB will most likely be brought in to play OLB on a 1 year contract.

With this trade there is not a single player left that was drafted by Millen from 2002-2006. Epic failure.

That is a redundant statement. I don't mind them getting Sheffler. I think they are just dumping Sims contract. He has never lived up to the 1st round pick. My only issue is this really points out what a wasted pick Pettigrew was last year! They had the worst defense of alltime and 2 first rounders to fix it. What do the Lions do, draft QB, TE!?!?! That shows that Mr. Ford is doing the drafting for this team. Millen is gone, and they still draft all offense. Don't be surprised if they take Spiller with the 2nd pick.
