Is there a way to customize this to a specialized search as we used to be able to do on the old boards?

YUP!

And I hope you guys will view this as a help rather than an eye sore. I can't tell you how many items I picked up because i didn't miss them when they popped on ebay.

Is it possible to set an option to hide the banner? Already check the searches on ebay multiple times a day so never miss anything, so if I wanted to see ebay I'd open ebay.

It's sort of annoying when it's at the top of every page.
to be quite honest, I never noticed it was there until J.P. pointed it out. Now that I know it's there, I will no doubt find it useful. I changed the setting so it reflects a search I'm currently interested in.

however, at the end of the day, is it really that annoying? FCB has had an ad at the top of the page for pretty much its whole incarnation, so I don't see what the big deal is. When you open a thread, try clicking the little "down arrow" icon - this will take you to the first unread post in the thread, which bypasses the ad entirely.

what's really annoying are the posters with huge sig images (except for mine, 'cause it's pretty damn sweet) ;)

No no. I use IE at work so I see it. I'm just saying - if someone uses Firefox with AdBlock it may explain why they don't see it. Even though that kind of depends on how it's scripted.
