Ebay haters....
I actually read my feedback every time someone leaves it for me. And I do check my stars after each one. Although I cant tell how many stars they left for me in each category I can get an idea. Now I did talk to a friend about this a couple of months ago and he told me when there used to be retaliatory negative feedback he left a positive one word response and gave the seller 1 star for everything (to bring down their score). Fast forward to today. I had 2 sellers leave me feedback. My stars for item as described and shipping time went from 5.0 to 4.9 (I know not earth shattering but I do care  ) Which means one of the two who left me feedback left me less than 5 stars. If I go to shipping one paid on the 15th, the other 16th. and they received the cards on the 19th. The only way I could have gotten it there any faster would to get on a plane and hand deliver it. Which brings me to my point....

Ebay haters....If you don't like the s/h charge and you bid and win, does that give you the right to give the seller 1 star in each category? I am coming to find out the more I talk to people that this is a very common practice. If you look at the other categories "Item as described" I describe the card (year set, serial number etc) I NEVER describe the condition. I refer to the scan and ask questions. If you receive the card and its not "as described" why not send it back? So I think this category is BS. Communication, another BS category. I answer all questions within hours. Foe those who don't ask question what communication? You get an invoice. I even fill out the tracking number with eBay so you can see it. Which brings me to shipping time which is actually good, as well as shipping and handling charges. These two hold some water. The s/h charges seems to be the hot topic. If you don't like the s/h don't bid, or calculate it into your max buy price. So to make a long story short why do people not give 5 stars when a seller deserves it.? Why do buyers drop 1 star for all categories because he did not like the s/h price he agreed to?

Yes a rambling post, but it let me went!

Thoughts, comments, confessions.....

As a side note I leave feedback immediately upon payment. I don't hold feedback for "ransom" as some sellers do. (Again I found out about this practice from a buyer who even posted in my feedback that I left immediate feedback  )

Let me add to this:
EBAYS FEEDBACK SYSTEM IS MEANINGLESS!!!

However the next time I win a card that the seller calls a "1/1" in the title but is really numbered 1/10 or to the player's jersey #, I WILL leave a single star rating for 'item as described.'

Matt,

You are looking at it wrong.....see EVERYONE is basically in the same shoes you are....I am not in the red, and have a high search standing, yet ebay sellers with much lower feedback and more negatives have a higher search standing than I do......ebay rewards the volume sellers.....people like you and I will never see that treatment.

I don't sell very much on eBay. I always offer free shipping with dc. I have had buyers leave less than 5 stars on shipping charges. ::facepalm::

I am glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. ::facepalm::

The stars make no sense. If I buy from someone I look at their %.
100%, 99%, 98%, etc.. and any recent negatives. I have never looked at their stars. So I don't really know why I am obsessed with them!

I almost always leave positive feedback with 5 stars across the board, but there are some areas I might leave a lower star.

How accurate was the item description?
Almost always 5's unless there are major flaws (dinged corners or surface scratches). I don't care if you say nothing about condition, you didn't accurately describe the item by not mentioning major flaws. Also, for people like me who don't sell a lot or at all it's a hassle to mail things back. I don't care if you offer a refund, it's not worth it to me to buy an envelope, repackage the card, and take time out of my saturday, which is the only time I can go to the PO.

How satisfied were you with the seller's communication?
Never less than 5 unless I email a seller and never hear back from them. Even at that, if I get the card quick and it isn't damaged I often still leave 5 stars.

How quickly did the seller ship the item?
Unless it's an extreme amount of time (3+ weeks) I never leave less than 5.

How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?
I don't agree with the thought that you agree to it so you have to say it's very reasonable. If you charge $3.50 to ship a single card it isn't reasonable even if I include that price in my bid. You can charge $3.50 if you offer additional services (good packaging, DC, insurance, priority etc...), but most people don't do this. Also, charging $1 per additional card or not capping shipping for additional purchases is not reasonable in my opinion either. Also, if it comes postage due I'm giving 1 star unless you offer free or really cheap sipping. That crap annoys me to no end having to go to the post office to pay 23 cents to get my card.

I have been thinking about this one a lot lately. Am I wrong to expect a card in 10 days or less?
I have had 2 recent purchases that were not even postmarked until 8 or 9 days after I paid. Just seems
like BS to me. If you have time to bust wax/buy cards and list them on eBay, you should have time
to walk to the mailbox/go to the PO.

It annoys me too, but I let it go because I have enough incoming that I don't get to anxious about anything. If I only bought 1-2 cards a week I'd probably want stuff sooner.

The worst is when they print the paypal shipping label the day you pay and they don't even mail it until a week later.

How flawed is the eBay ratings, when you can leave anything other that 5 stars for a FREE SHIPPING item?????

I contacted them about this and the rep I dealt with agrees with me. The reason is because during the Holiday season sellers offer FREE SHIPPING, but with an option to upgrade to Overnite for an upcharge. My answer to them was because a couple sellers 9only around the Holidays) offer additional services all sellers should have to deal with this the rest of the year???? They couldn't give me a better answer.

The whole system is dumb.

Ebay essentially expects you to have a perfect 5/5 on every transaction. That makes no sense. Espesially if a buyer is not a seller and does not realize this - they may give a 4 out of 5 thinking that on a scale of 1-5 that should place the service very good/excellent, but maybe not perfect or the best they have seen. To me this makes the whole thing a joke and a waste of time, because personally any transaction that gets a positive I'm pretty much just going to give all 5's to.

I really could care less about the stars. I don't even check the dsr report anymore.

I offer free shipping and my shipping dsr is the lowest out of all of 'em.

I pack up every order immediatly when a buyer pays and go the the post box every day before the po closes. My shipping time is the 2nd lowest dsr.

Buyers are overly picky but I just dont care anymore. I do all I can do.

I have never had any problems with the stars. 100% feedback with over 1800 and my lowest is a 4.9 for my shipping charges. I am sorry I can't offer any additional insight.

Boom ~ did you CMB for those three poseys? :ugeek:

Stars are anonymous and you can’t correlate it to fb. Many have tried, many have failed. As for FB, I like that sleazy sellers who drained their PP accts and never sent product cannot neg me and that I can leave honest fb w/little to no worries of retaliation.

(Warning: Unpopular Opinion Below)

As a heavy seller, I like the stars b/c they’ve given me fb on things I need(ed) to change. For ex., communication was a bit low when dsrs first came out, so I made some minor tweaks and bam, communication is now highly rated. S/H stars continue to fluctuate between 4.6-4.9 and that’s something I’m still trying to improve on. I suspect that star’s low partly b/c many people do NOT read my $5 flat shipping for 5+ items, no matter how many items you win’ blurb and since ebay calculates s/h wrong, many of these buyers overpay and I don’t always catch it.

The FB changes/dsrs have driven away some sellers from ebay + frankly, I think it’s a grand thing as many of these sellers SHOULD have been gone long ago and the “casual” sellers who shipped “whenever” (say 1x/week if that) are now having to improve or leave. Plus, from a business standpoint, the less competition, the better. It’s also been a nice boom to my consignment/trading assistant business. Also, it’s been nice to see some of the sleazy sellers (no one on fcb of course) get lowered search status b/c of dsrs and to see the good sellers get raised in search.

Bottom line: I don’t love love love love everything ebay does, but as both a heavy buyer and seller, I can live w/them and I think ebay’s finally getting “cleaned up” which was long overdue. Stars will fluctuate throughout the month and I don’t have either the desire or time to obsess over them. On the worst month, I get 5% back, but on most months, I get 20%, so I’m happy.

I never realized people still fill out the stars. I type thanks or something in the first box and paste in every box below just clicking postives. I don't think I've ever left a star rating. Makes me wonder if that will bring down a rating :?

Not leaving stars doesn’t lower ratings, but may help boost a seller’s powerseller discount if he/she is on the border of say 15% and 20%. As a buyer, I leave 5 stars unless something’s ridiculously wrong- e.g., 3 wks to ship, not the right item (+ no attempt to fix it), etc.

Also, you don’t have to fill out all of the star categories- some of my buyers apparently only fill out the 1st 2, but ignore s/h time and s/h charges.
