That was a SHOT!

Idiot Yankee fans could have made some $$$ to keep the ball but they had no clue who Eric Hosmer was and that it's his first HR (or else they probably would have kept it for ransom!)

Lol, +1. The person throwing it back obviously knows next to nothing about baseball. Unfortunate, for them. I have never understood throwing back a major league HR ball. That is more than likely the only time you will ever touch a HR baseball-why would you throw it back? That is just silly.

Hopefully this puts a little charge back into his stuff, I got some more ca$$$hing in I need to do.

And with Hosmer's entire family in attendance, the guy who caught is is SURE to be approached for a trade of some sort of jersey/bat combo or whatever...eh...if only a prospector caught the ball....

The dude who caught it would have gotten offered at least $500 with signed jersyes/bats/balls etc.

If only who had a clue who Hosmer was. he'll be kicking himself in a few years.

I was in the stands when it happened and it annoyed me that the fan threw it back. If only I was standing near him, I would have offered him cash on the spot!

Not knowing who Eric Hosmer is has nothing to do with someones baseball knowledge. There are some people who have lives that dont revolve around prospecting.

Its not about prospecting man, its about the potential to own the first HR ball from a guy who could end up being pretty damn good.

Say you hold it and don't sell (would be a ****** thing not to trade to him tho) and you hold the authenticated first HR ball of say a 500 HR club member. Thats something I doubt any collector could say. Theres a huge "what if" factor there....but throwing that ball back was just dumb.

is this definitely time to sell?

Yes.

I actually think he'll be pretty good, so it's possible his stuff continues to climb, but that's a silly risk to take when you can make considerably more than you bought in for by selling right now.

The point that I was making here is that to say that someone knows next to nothing about baseball bc they dont know who Eric Hosmer is is just absurd.

I agree...but if you're at least a semi-active fan in baseball you know that Hosmer is probably the biggest rookie call up thus far this year...

Some Yankee fans ARE stupid enough though to throw something worth actually money like that back though.

you do realize we are talking about MLB right? You don't have to follow MiLB religiously to realize you just threw back a milestone ball of the highest profile call up thus far this year....
