anyone remember the pit?

This was my first experience with a stock market ticker. I remember just watching it scroll at the bottom of the page and reading the numbers of cards that are nowhere near the value they had then.

The internet was a simpler place then.

So the cheapest...CHEAPEST....price to get a card delivered is $6.75 & 1.60 each add. card w a MAX of 3 cards per order!

So to ship 9 crds would cost $29???? ::facepalm::

I've never seen an eTopps card in person and know nothing about the website or how it's run, but some of the cards I've seen posted here and on Ebay do look pretty nice. I don't think they ever produced a Will Clark card, which is disappointing to me. I'd love to have one in my collection.

Is there any actual information available yet aside form what is posted on the site?

Anybody tweeted topps, or called CS?

I'm not sure what niche the product really served. No disrespect towards anyone who likes eTopps, but I'm just glad there's one fewer product in an already crowded hobby marketplace.

How long are you going to beat this drum?

Obviously if people are still ordering and busting wax from 5 years ago or more, the market cannot be overcrowded.

Now they sell the entire season and print them up later. I mean where else can you take
a guys money week after week and not produce anything until months later?

Happens all the time. Hobbyists prepay for boxes/cases of sports trading cards, people prepay for getting work done on their house, people pay upfront in some cases when they commission artwork. It all comes down to trust when you prepay - by prepaying, one trusts the contractor, the artist, or Topps in the case of eTopps to deliver in the end.

but that is what topps wanted...the shipping fee was raised so you couldn't stomach getting the cards delivered! I can

Topps really probably thought they were running an unregulated stock market! ;) Their shipping fees are higher than what I pay in commission fees when I buy and sell financial stocks!

F-TOPPS!

No where in their Dec. 20th notice (which was never emailed to me as an customer) do they say a specific date for this increase ("early next year")nor do they mention that reward points will no longer be used! I have around 100 reward points I was planning to use once all my 2011 cards became available (Hosmer, Cam Newton, etc.). Not it will cost me $76 to get my firggen cards.

Nice job TOPPS, way to screw me again. I'm done with your BS, hello LEAF!

I just sent them this. Feel free to copy and paste it and add your name. Send to [email protected]:

I just wanted to let you know how absolutely DISGUSTED I am with the way you have handled this dumping of the eTopps program. I am STUNNED at the extent to which you are going to SCREW your loyal customers. Your simultaneous raising of the shipping rates to an INSULTING $13 for ONE CARD and your ceasing to allow rewards points to pay for shipping is an outright SCAM. You’re even dumber than I thought if you think people don’t see that this is a blatant attempt to force your customers to abandon the cards that they paid good money for by charging more for shipping than the stupid cards are worth. You are an absolute JOKE and this just shows what you think of your customers. We mean NOTHING to you, as you prove over and over again. I’ll be forwarding this to MLB to also thank them for granting you the sole license, and therefore removing your only incentive to not screw and steal from your customers. This scenario is the exact reason that there are antitrust laws. YOU SUCK

Sincerely,

Erik Swiney

re: shipping cost.

Price gouging is against the law; correct?

In some cases, but I can't make the case that price gouging on sports card shipping is against the law. You are better off fine tooth combing the eTopps TOS to see if Topps violated the contractual terms in any way or if everything they have done with regards to price hikes in shipping and proper notifications were done right.

I mean suing them only pays the lawyers; frustrating is all.

Making moves on the trade post since this was posted. Down to 121 cards in my port from 135. Moving 4 ~$1 cards and a couple reward points for $3-4 rookies.

This situation is really disgusting, the value of in-portfolio cards is pathetic. I'm tempted at this point to bite the bullet and get all of my cards delivered, and use them for IP autos. That may be the only way to recoup any value. Topps only released one etopps autograph issue last year, as far as I know, and I don't foresee them releasing anymore.

What do you guys think about my idea, as long as I then pay for the signatures to be authenticated and graded. Is there any upside to this idea, or should we just cut our losses and sell for whatever you can get in-port.

My only fear at this point is that if I hold onto my in-port cards is that the value will deteriorate to the point that shipping costs are greater than the current value of the cards.

The cardtarget current value of my current in-port cards is: $153.76

I have 43 cards in my port which will cost me $86.25 to have shipped.

I'm already a net loser in terms of current value by: $93.24

Any advice?

I'm playing around on the trading post. I package 3-4 $1 cards and pick up an Andre Johnson RC valued at $3. I lose on "value" but if I get them shipped I save over $1 per card that I no longer own. It's also better in my opinion to have a rc than a bunch of $1 base cards.
