I emailed a guy on craigslist about selling my base cards to him. I went through boxes and came up with roughly 8k cards. They range from 87-2010. There are many chrome rookies and bowman base. There's about 4500 cards from 05 to now. My question is what wouldbe fair price to ask for. Thanks in advanced

It's all "junk" right?

If so, it's probably more important to get something out of them instead of them clogging space so $40 or so is probably "fair." I've seen 5K boxes for $20 at shows, so something in that range is probably right, but if he's willing to go $100...I'd take it in a hurry.

Remember a few years ago there was a guy here paying $15 for 5k boxes at shows

If you can get $50 or over, you'd be lucky for base cards of no real value

Haha. For reference... don't try to sell them to me since I grossly overguessed.
I currently have a snow lodge for ice fishing available just outside of Baton Rouge...any interest?

I would take each 5,000 ct box and bring them to Salvation Army or Goodwill and assign a value of .05 per card and take the $250 tax deduction.

Have you done this in the past? What type of tax backup do you get for this?

There is a guy on craiglists that was selling 25,000 cards;20,000 were basketball and the other 5000 were baseball/football.He was asking 150.00

All commons, but if i had the extra 150.00,i would have taken a shot at them.

How many times must we go through this? My home is NOT a snow lodge and I shall thank you to not put it on the market again from here on out.

Nothing red flags a tax return more than people writing off their trash as being worth something.

It's not lying or cheating.

According to book value, most base cards book between .05 and .10, therefore, a $250 deduction is fair.

(see, bv does count somewhere! :D)
