At the ball park in arlington.

Remember that when you are at a game, a ball is not worth your life.

Fan dies after falling from left-field seats

ARLINGTON – A man fell approximately 20 feet from the left-field stands to the concrete level behind the leftfield fence during the Rangers-Athletics game on Thursday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, and was pronounced dead less than three hours later.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident,” Rangers president and CEO Nolan Ryan said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

The fan left the stadium in an ambulance, and was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

The fan tumbled over the railing at approximately 7:30 p.m. after asking Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton for a foul ball hit by Oakland outfielder Conor Jackson in the top of the second inning. Hamilton tossed the ball up to him, he leaned over and caught it and then went headfirst into the gap between the seats and out-of-town scoreboard.

“I tried to grab him, but I couldn’t,” said Ronnie Hargis, a 50-year-old from Hawley who was seated next to him. “I tried to slow him down a little bit. He went straight down.”

Hargis said the man was attending the game with his son, who he speculated was 6 to 8 years old. He added that the man told him he was a Brownwood firefighter.

The fall comes just over a year after Tyler Morris tumbled 30 feet from the second deck into the field level seats on June 6, 2010. Morris, a Lake Cities firefighter, lost his balance reaching for a Nelson Cruz foul ball, went over the railing, hit a ribbon video board on the face of the lower level and somersaulted toward the lower level, landing on a couple from the Houston area. Morris survived the fall.

Fan dies tonight going after fowl ball

"The unidentified fan, wearing a blue Rangers cap and white Rangers shirt, was seated in the front row and, according to others seated near him, was yelling at Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton for a foul ball that was hit by Conor Jackson and landed on the field. Hamilton flipped the ball toward the fan and the fan leaned over, caught it and toppled over in the gap between the railing and the back of the scoreboard on the left-field fence."

Oh wow. That is horrible.

I read the title and thought this was going to be a joke about a chicken... "fowl" ball?

Sad story.

That's pretty awful. I bet Hamilton is shaken up by this, I know I would be.

My brother and I were at the game last year where the fan fell off the club level. Pretty much the same situation, a fan going after a ball.

Yeah, why havent catch nets been installed at these parks? So sad for that to happen, even sadder with his boy there to see it happen. Cant imagine going through that.

Absolutely. The Rangers will be paying out a nice sum of money to this guy's family for their failure to do so.

Man that's messed up. It makes me feel a little ill. I think his son witnessing it is the main source of my sorrow. That shiit is twisted.

Why? It seems pretty straight forward, don't lean over a fence you may fall over...If I decide to lean over the fence at the grand canyon can I expect someone to pay my loved ones because they don't have 'catch nets' installed? Stupidity is stupidity and should be treated as such.

So many sad things about the story. When I was a kid my mom collapsed in a restaurant and emergency was called. She was ultimately ok but it was horrible. I ran to the bathroom and started throwing up. God's blessings on everyone involved.
