He's a fantastic fielder too from the game I watched. Had some balls hit hard his way but fielded them all cleanly with good throws for outs. This guy is good.

I was hoping he wasn't going to do this great out of the gate. Marcum has been great for the Brewers this year, but I am thinking we may miss Lawrie long term.n Everything from watching him through the minors indicates he won't be able to stay in the infield. Scouts say he doesn't have the desire and work ethic to be a great fielder, which will push him to the outfield.

Can't really knock much about the kid right now.

I think that's the 'old' Lawrie. A couple of different Jays officials (one in AAA and one in the Majors) have said they've never been around a guy that has worked harder on his defense. I certainly don't doubt the old scouting reports but it really seems the guy has matured a ton over the past year.

This really does look like one of those trades that will benefit both teams.

Actually there was a radio interview (Fan590) he did about 3 weeks ago or so where he basically stated that hes willing to work on all facets of his game much more now as he feels way more comfortable within the Jays org than the Brewers and that the Jays are who hes wanted to play for since a kid!

I will see if I can find it online tomorrow!

Lawrie is not a great defender, but he does have a flare for making the incredible play. From someone who has seen every game this year, he is a little stiff and needs to work on his footwork. He is off balance when he fields grounders some of the time, almost like he lets the ball get too deep before he decides to field it. Having said that, the guy has done everything asked of him so far and I don't have any doubt that he will be a great defensive player at some point.
