Great stuff guys.
I just want to say, we collect a hell of a ball player. I don't know why people hate to give Big Frank the credit he deserves, but he's one of the best hitters of all time and certainly the best of his generation.
The amazing thing to me is that Frank has always been known as a signer and fan friendly player. At the ball park or in public, you really only hear about positive experiences.
He'll never be forgotten, but he'll never get the credit he's due.

I REALLY wanna go to the Sox game when they retire his number, so i'm selling off some more stuff on eBay to help fund the trip. Anyone else planning on attending?

I may be there Chad. I will have just gotten back from a vacation and have a wedding in Upstate NY the following weekend though...just a lot of travel expenses all at once.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. Braves2008champs & I are heading up to Baltimore for the Nationals which I belive is the weekend before, so i'll be broke(r) than usual too.

The company he works for buys a number of season tickets and they split the games up among the workers. I know he didn't have that night's game, however, so he had to get them from somewhere else. I'll let you know.

Did you mean your coming to Baltimore for the National? I haven't bought tickets yet, but am thinking about it...has a lot of potential and has been killer in the past for collectors! I haven't bought anything for that trip yet, but it's on the radar with urgency now that its JUNE ::facepalm::

Wish that I had waited another year and a half to move from there, as you guys could have stayed with me. I am unfortunately not able to make it up there for that game due to work travel. You guys are going to have an awesome time! Chicago rocks!!!

My dad and I are talking about going to Chicago for Franks special day. I haven't bought anything for that trip yet, but it's on the radar with urgency now that its JUNE ::facepalm::
Yep, my 1st card show since about 1995ish. I'm pretty excited, but have a feeling i'll be dissapointed.
I was checking out the cost involved for the trip to Chicago last night. Looks like it'll be right around $1000 if I go by myself. Man I wanna go bad!

How much are ya talking? The cheapest I found from Richmond to Chicago is around $325. That's w/ a lay-over though. Non-stop is a little less than double.

Yeah, it's gonna be expensive for sure. The way I see it though is it'll only happen once. I never got to see him play, which I really regret. I can replace most/all of the cards I sell, but I will only get one chance to go see his jersey retired.

I went to the national card show in Chicago in 2008, and it was awesome!! It kick started my Thomas collecting again, which had been in hiding since 1996, other than a purchase here or there after joining e-bay in 1999. Being local to the show it was well worth going, but not sure if I would have spent big money to travel to see it. Richmond is close to Baltimore, right?
