...mdotmorris. He contacts me out of the blue about a card we had previously discussed. I make him a firm cash offer on the item. I come online tonight to check my pm's and see that he has sent me three:

pm #1- he accepted my offer and included his paypal information and specifics of the deal
pm #2- he tells me he's going to advertise the card in a thread if I don't contact him soon (it's only been 2 hours since he accepted my offer and confirmed the deal)
pm #3 - he officially tells me that he sold the card and "couldn't wait" for payment... it's been 7 hours since he accepted my deal and he could clearly see I hadn't been online yet to check my pm's since they were still in his outbox!

It's Saturday and the day before a major holiday. Am I crazy for thinking that this is an insane way to operate? Am I crazy for being pissed? I have NEVER called anyone out but I was stunned at how this played out. Am I overreacting?

While I have never dealt with him I wouldn't hesitate to, but having said that it was very uncool of him to do what he did. But it is his card.

As Big Mac would say, I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm talking about this specific instance - is it right to be pissed and seriously question his credibility? Basic contract law says offer + acceptance = deal. We had that here.

Don't be absurd.

That's not what I would call good business practice. A member did the opposite to me. We confirmed a deal and I waited three days for them to pay. I sent a PM each day asking for a status update on the payment and each day the PM's were read and never responded to. Then I threatened negative feedback to invoke a response and was told that he didn't care about feedback on this site (even though they are on all the time trying to make deals) and that (despite agreeing to buy the cards) he was still trying to decide if he "really wanted them." I had gotten several offers on the same cards but passed them up because this member had agreed to buy them. Finally, I just reposted them. Seems like some ppl just don't get it.

Don't be absurd.

Please point out the absurdity in my post because apparently I don't get it... is it the old "it's a deal on a message board, don't take it so seriously" defense? It is what it is and the bottom line is we had a deal and he reneged in record time. Tell me what I'm missing.

If I had left the user ID anonymous I guarantee everyone would be burying this guy. In this case, his track record of credibility should be irrelevant unless you truly believe I'm overreacting given the above facts of the transaction. If that's the case then so be it, that's the type of feedback I'm looking for, but any past deals shouldn't influence what happened here.

sorry dude... thats a ****** deal. i know they are his cards and he can do whatever he wants but... 7 hours isn't a very long payment window. work lasts 8 hours, movies last 2 hours, dinner lasts an hour... i would assume he sold it for more than your offer or he would have waited to get a return response.

Damn that's too bad. Sorry to hear this. I guess I have been lucky when dealing with people on here. Everyone I have dealt with has been patient.

On a side note, I have bought cards from mdotmorris before, and had no problems.

I should also point out that it's a card #'d /5 so it's not something that is readily available - I likely won't see another one - which also adds to my frustration.

Bedtime for me - Happy Easter to anyone celebrating.

You really shouldn't talk. You seem to have a problem with every single Ebay transaction you've had

I agree with you and thank you for posting your experience. I personally will never deal with him due to this botched transaction. While I don't feel he was legally obligated to sell the card to you, the situation was dealt with very poorly by him. Sorry to hear you missed out on the card.

Just sounds like poor business practice and that someone offered him more and he took it. Really, if you agree, someone needs to give you 24 hours to pay for something unless its specifically stated, "I need payment immediately" or "I need to have payment by XXXam/pm" for whatever reason.

7 hours is not reasonable, especially when it was clear you werent available and hadnt gotten to respond to his PMs

John sorry to hear you had problem. I have dealt with him numerous times and he handles himself like a pro. What it sounds like here is he got a higher offer on a hot card. Before any of us in this thread villanize him he should have the opportunity to say his side regarding this transaction. I believe he has earned that much. The both of you guys are pros and hopefully this works itself out.

To everyone who is interested this was an extremely time sensitive scenario and not my normal business practice. I have 100 feedbacks on this site because I'd say I do everything the right way everytime. Just know I sold a card I didn't want to sell for less than I'd normally move it, regardless of recent ebay listings, to meet a deadline on a cell phone bill that if it wasn't paid by midnight would be turned off. If it went into today not being paid then to turn it back on I'd have to pay the past due amount and current balance which I don't have. I've never made a deal with this member and I waited as long as I could (not as long as I'd normally) for a pm back. Although I did eventually sell it and for more than his offer it was only because I needed it prior to midnight. For those of you who don't want to deal with me based on this situation I understand but those of you who'm I've dealt with before just know this was completely isolated.

Thanks and if you have any constructive questions, please PM.

I have delt with SEVERAL people HERE who don't consider something sold until payment is made.

Solid response and overall good dialogue in the thread. I'm sorry it came to this but I can at least respect your circumstances and candor that you showed in your post above.
