Rosenthal just said on MLB network trade could be centered on Wheeler and Brown involved..

I'm ok if this means Beltran and Pelfry are gone..

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York: I'm told to pay attention to two Giants prospect names: LHP Eric Surkamp and OF Francisco Peguero. Not positive in deal, though.

Why don't we just randomly speculate which of the Giants top 10 prospects are invovled in the deal with a new name posted every hour on the hour? ::facepalm::

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Giants are expected to give up prospect right-hander Zach Wheeler as the centerpiece of the trade for Carlos Beltran.
That would be quite a nice get for Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, as initial reports suggested that prospect outfielder Gary Brown was the centerpiece. Wheeler, 21, is regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the game. The 2009 first-round pick has a 3.99 ERA and 168 strikeouts over his first 146 2/3 innings as a pro.

Personally I would rather have Wheeler over Belt in this deal. They already have Davis at 1B and F-Mart can come up to play OF.

If they somehow get them both then the Mets are truly the winners here.

Who knows with Ike Davis and Fernando just sucks balls. I have no faith in him.

Beltran is a free agent so if the Mets get anything more valuable than the compensation picks they have done well. Any of the prospects being discussed have more value and will mamake the Mets a better team.

Just letting u know that the meta wont get a comp draft pick when he hits free agency and signs somewhere. So tehnically, giants wont get a pick for him either at the end of the season

This is why beltran need to be traded. And to get back a wheeler for him? That's a win all the way for the mets

Im probably in the minority but I'd prefer giving up Wheeler to Brown. Wheeler has missed some time in his career and his brother had arm troubles. If Tidrow and Evans think that Wheeler is expendable I trust them. They made the right call on Alderson and I hope they're right here.

You aren't in the minority. I agree with you. Wheeler is still a work in progress.

The ball jumps out of Wheeler's hand but I have heard that the Giants scouts are concerned that his command is not coming around. We have some organizational depth at SP with Surkamp having a great year and emerging as a candidate for a spot in the rotation. We don't have another outfielder like Brown. Brown is the most advanced baserunner and defender in the Giants organization. With all that said I am shocked that the Mets were able to get a top 50 prospect for Beltran. Carlos's back is about to get very heavy from having to carry this offense.
