Wow sorry but the Giants are completely stupid for giving up Wheeler for a 2 month rental player. With a prospect that talented you cannot just give him up for a 2 month player, and it isn't like they are getting a superstar either.

You really can't get quality without giving up quality. Beltran was one of the best hitters on the trade market. We knew he was going to command at least one top prospect, possibly multiple prospects. Giants have a definite need in the #3-#4 spot. They need outfielders who can hit. They need good hitters in general. Beltran satisfies all of those criteria. They traded from a position of strength for a position of need. They managed to get $4 million in addition to Beltran and retained their top hitting prospects. They're not getting Beltran for a 2 month rental. They're getting him for a 3 month rental. It's that third month that the Giants are working towards. They're still not a better team than the Phillies, even with Beltran, but they're heckuva lot closer. Let's see what they can do with Jonathan Sanchez.

Harvey, Mejia, and Wheeler can hopefully form a nice trio in the future. I was losing hope that the Mets were going to get a top prospect. Good luck to Beltran in SF, hopefully he helps them beat the Phils.

There are a lot of similarities between this deal and the deal for Freddy Sanchez. Giants fans couldn't believe that they traded a first rounder for rental in Freddy Sanchez. Then Freddy signed an extension, Alderson took a huge dump and the Giants went on to win a WS with Sanchez contributing considerably. Time will tell how this deal really plays out. Feng said it best though, while Wheeler is a great prospect, he is just that, a prospect. Beltran is a proven commodity and the Giants just signaled that they are in 'win now' mode.

Don't see how your the Mets and not demand Brandon Belt in this trade.

For a 2 month rental....that's a little steep

However another poster mentioned 3 month rental which is more like it. The Giants would likely win the West without Beltran, but will need him to go off like he did for Houston in the post-season.

Tough to see Wheeler go but I really don't want to see Brown leave so soon, he looks like a stud in the making, he's going nuts in San Jose right now.

I'm happy Brown is staying and that it's Wheeler who's going.

The Giants need to go for the World Series every year that their rotation and bullpen is this strong and healthy. They needed another bat and got it, so kudos to them.

Exactly. Not saying Giants are the best team currently, but if they win the world series then this trade is worth it. Heck getting another NL Championship is worth trading 1 prospect than not going far at all. Winning > potential strong future.

It does hurt to lose a talented prospect, but its not like we have pitching talent in the majors and minors already. plus we keep surkamp, belt and brown!

And now the question is do we make another move? Can we get hernandez from the Reds too, or do we not want to completely lose our farm system. I know belt and brown are staying put now no matter what but we still have talented prospects in Surkamp, Pegeuro (sp and lazy haha) and charlie culberson, tommy joseph, thomas neal, ehire adrianza and our other catching prospect haha

Gary Brown and someone for bj upton and extend?
