Even if Renteria is able to compile enough stats, he's never been considered the "best player at his position" even one year, let alone several years the way other shortstops have. It'll certainly be a bit more interesting now with the MVP award, but I don't think he'll make it.

Edgar Renteria is just fourth player with game-winning RBI in two World Series clinchers. Others are Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra. No kidding

Chase Utley is also tied with Reggie Jackson for most HR's in a world series, That doesn't mean his HOF probabilities get any higher. Guys like Rice and Dawson got in is because writers now watched them play in their primes and felt they were HOF players. Dale Murphy was one of the dominate players of his era but other big names shadowed him in the lime light. I don't think the player in question has a real shot at the hof when it comes to writers, by the time he retires his three run shot won't be a huge talking point nationally. He was never a huge name in the league and that helps a lot with being in the hall. I would love to see Ozzie smith removed from the hall though, he got in because of a back flip and that shows how much popularity means with the vote.

I think the WS MVP will solidify his spot in the HOF, if, and only if, he gets to 3000 career hits. With Palmeiro probably being left out for a while, at least, 3000 hits won't be the lock they once were. So the award definitely helps Renteria's case. Plus the fact that he has driven in the game winning run in 2 World Series clinchers 13 years apart won't hurt him either.

lmao. this is awesome. Think of all the clowns that have won WS MVP's. David Eckstein for one.

I think it would be more of an accomplishment for Renteria to learn English after being here for 14 years. Then I'd vote for him.

Renteria to retire? I think so...

Watching Poseys post game interview he said that Edgar was going out on a high note, or something like that. Not sure the exact wording but it definitly gave me the impression that he was 'in the know' of what was going to happen...

So you think winning world series MVP and hitting the game winning run twice is enough for HOF induction? Call Joe Carter and tell him the good news and every other avg player to win that title.

Renteria > Jeter

He may be the greatest shortstop ever to have lived.

Oh You Canadians.
Before yesterday, I never thought of Renteria as an HOFer

Still don't.

Halladay has had 10x the career that Renteria has, and there's questions as to if he'll get in with only 1 postseason appearance now.

He's played for 6 teams, been to the WS with 3...what the hell hat does he wear?? If you have to ask, he's not an HOFer.

[quote="ALL_THE_HYPE":bs26patv]No way. Nothing else to say.

no way he will not get in despite your opinion? or no way he doesn't deserve to get in? two very different things...

No way he gets into the Hall of Fame is what I'm saying.

what if he plays 8 more years (he's only 33, so 41 is not of the question) and gets 3,029 hits?

i'm definitely playing a stretch-game here, but no way he doesn't make the HOF with that total # of hits? and his postseason record?

It's the same with Johnny Damon. Many don't think Damon will make it but if they both get close to 3,000 hits or over, it is most likely they will both get in.[/quote:bs26patv]

The difference is that Johnny Damon was a much more productive player than Renteria.

No,it's about numbers and charachter...I knew this thread would get laughers, just like all the other hofer threads i have started...i have thick skin though, so laugh on.

You really aren't that far off, who cares what people think. Do I think Edgar Renteria DESERVES to be in the HOF? No. Do I think he has a legitimate shot? Yes.

It doesn't matter if people think Player X deserves to be in the HOF or not. Just b/c you don't think he doesn't deserve to be in the HOF, doesn't mean he won't make it.

I don't think Goose Gossage, Bruce Sutter, Gary Carter, Tony Perez, or Ryne Sandberg should be in the HOF, but that didn't stop the writers.

Edgar needs 4-5 more productive seasons and get really close to/over 3,000 hits and I say he will get in.
BOSS! DE PLANE DE PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 silver sluggers, 2 Gold Gloves and a World Series MVP is a very impressive resume, just not HOF worthy

Jack Morris had some impressive Post season performances and that has not gotten him in the Hall

I think Renteria is more useful to his team than Jeter in the postseason. Their numbers are similar, and Renteria has had a better success rate getting his teams to the WS.

PRobably the same people that say a WS MVP doesn't help garnish votes are the same people that say player x shouldn't get in because they don't even have a WS ring...
