Renteria > Jeter

He may be the greatest shortstop ever to have lived.

Thats all I'm saying

Oh You Canadians.
Before yesterday, I never thought of Renteria as an HOFer

Still don't.

Halladay has had 10x the career that Renteria has, and there's questions as to if he'll get in with only 1 postseason appearance now.

He's played for 6 teams, been to the WS with 3...what the hell hat does he wear?? If you have to ask, he's not an HOFer.

Halladay will be a HOF'er ;)

4.9 22.6 20.0 3.4 6.2 1.0 0.1 0.7 1.9 0.6 0.2 2.1 3.9 Per 30 playoff series

The only glaring difference is more PA's because Jeter was lead-off. Extra PA's turned into hits

Edgar Renteria is just fourth player with game-winning RBI in two World Series clinchers. Others are Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra. No kidding

Chase Utley is also tied with Reggie Jackson for most HR's in a world series, That doesn't mean his HOF probabilities get any higher. Guys like Rice and Dawson got in is because writers now watched them play in their primes and felt they were HOF players. Dale Murphy was one of the dominate players of his era but other big names shadowed him in the lime light. I don't think the player in question has a real shot at the hof when it comes to writers, by the time he retires his three run shot won't be a huge talking point nationally. He was never a huge name in the league and that helps a lot with being in the hall. I would love to see Ozzie smith removed from the hall though, he got in because of a back flip and that shows how much popularity means with the vote.

Well, the backflip and the fact that he is the greatest defensive player ever at his position which happens to be the most difficult position to play. And that view is one of the few things that are agreed upon by scouts, fans, and the geeks down in their parent's basement like me.

Uh, I think it's obvious that Edgar Renteria is the greatest shortstop ever.

Wasn't Renteria just discussing retirement a couple months ago? And people are speculating he'd play another 3-5 years?

He's mediocre, he's a national league player..and yes i say this because i'm a Tigers fan..he did nothing in Boston and nothing in Detroit..he could go to ANY AL team next season and again he'd do NOTHING

Indeed. Fans were chanting "Please don't retire" to him last night! If I were him, I'd retire right now, while on a high note.

no way he will not get in despite your opinion? or no way he doesn't deserve to get in? two very different things...

No way he gets into the Hall of Fame is what I'm saying.

what if he plays 8 more years (he's only 33, so 41 is not of the question) and gets 3,029 hits?

i'm definitely playing a stretch-game here, but no way he doesn't make the HOF with that total # of hits? and his postseason record?

It's the same with Johnny Damon. Many don't think Damon will make it but if they both get close to 3,000 hits or over, it is most likely they will both get in.[/quote:2tjj4rw4]
Hes 35 not 33, so yes 43 is out of the question. + hes only hit an avg of 120.5 hits in the last 4 years. No way he gets close to 3,000.

I misquoted earlier that he was 33 and later saw he is actually 35. And I wouldn't be surprised if he is a year or two older than 35. So agreed, 3,000 hits is virtually impossible and my thoughts on his HOF chances have moved from slim to essentially nil.

I never heard before about Edgar retiring...if that is the case, he definitely won't get in.
He would have had to put up decent numbers over a 5 year period, and have another "big feather" in his cap to stand a chance.
Inre omar, borderline, but i think he gets in, but not first ballot...i hope so...he's a class act!

I don't think he gets in. He would have to come back and be an All-Star level player for the next 3-5 years for me to even consider him. Yes he had a great World Series. In contrast he was only 1 for 16 in the NLCS. Also, how many HOFers start no games in the NLDS and only 4 of the 6 in the NLCS?

The only way he gets into the Hall of Fame is with 3000 hits. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.
