I know this is going to sound like a stupid question to all of you griffey collectors, but....

I have a complete checklist of all his cards from 80s and 90s, and I was just curious are there any cards in the 2000's that are considered TRUE CLASSICS MUST HAVE?

I know of the goudeys and heritage, and the ultimates, but anything that sticks out like a sore thumb in this category?
2001 sweet spot
500 hr club POH

yea, 500 hr club piece of history...thats a good one..
besides autos, any others?

Also, are there any in the 90s that are hard to find, that book little and are "killer looking"? Like highly sought after, but book really low? (even if they sell high)? In other words, if i trim the 90s list down from the thousands that exist by sorting out the low bv cards, trying to get it to just maybe 100 or so cards, are there a few I would want ? Does that make any sense?

Wow, that website must have been time consuming...thanks for the link. Just autos though? My main focus is inserts right now (grin)....

Here is another question...since i dont limit my cards to any one player, can you tell me some awesome 90s insert sets that griffey is not in, that you wish he was? Or probably the manufacturers knew better than to leave griffey out of any set of the 90s...

Dont forget my previous question, but here is another question too...since there seem to be quite a few of you, what do you guys do when a card comes up on ebay that you know more than one of you wants? Do you guys take turns nicely, or is it cut throat and blood and jack each other up (grin)....

no reason to be sorry...it still is a GREAT resource....I will probably only want one or two of his classic early autos, and then hopefully something new in mariners uniform....I will go to battle for a 2009-2010 patch auto in mariners uniform, especially if manufactures make something on-card (fingers crossed)...

I already bought 2 (sold 1) of the goudey autos...

I don't think there were too many (if any) insert sets that Griffey was left out of during the 90's.

That was the first set I attempted. I ended up moving them all but the 1/50 piazza, which later I also moved..
...just wish they were on-card...still one of the best looking patch auto sets imo...good deal!

YES, the artifacts are sweet...especially the duals...

Short and Sweet

First of all, hello to all the Griffey Card Collectors I've missed for a time now. I've still been actively buying and selling but limiting my collection to 2007 and before. Sold off all the 2008 stuff (a few others to come) and not buying 2009 except buybacks.

I recently wrote Roy and have not heard back as yet but expect I will. I won' bore all of you with the details of that email, but suffice it to say, regarding the 2009 RC Griffey auto buyback card in black or blue ink, I have every reason at this point to believe that cards were released with Coa's and without Coa's.

I believe, that COA released cards carry different hologram numbers than the cards found without COA's.

I believe that many of the sellers of these cards, without COA's, bought them from others where the original owner did not ever get a COA with the card to begin with. I don't believe that all these many cards had COA's lost OR THAT THEY ARE FRAUDULENT.

I think it is a HUGE mistake for all of you to jump to conclusions, that because there is a group of COA connected cards with closely matched hologram numbers, that the conclusion is that other cards without COA's and with different numbers are fake.

To have an occasional seller fake a card and do it well and get it passed off as real is possible but when you take the next step and start assuming that all the cards with numbers outside the closely associated set of numbers are fake, especially when they are in another group without COA's in my mind is an illogical argument.

In summary- "show me the money"

Someone, anyone, show me the dupicate card for the "fake" /89 card and let us see the fraudulent card next to the real one with the COA.

With all the interest in these cards, record keeping and posting, don't you think that ONE fake would be available to scan along side ONE authentic card?

Logic says you guys are missing something here and its probably assuming that UD has any idea of what they are doing or what they have done- they don't. I was told by one UD employee, an "expert", that none of the cards were released with a COA. SURE. That's wrong.

But if some were released without a COA, why would they follow the sequence of the COA cards? There would be no reason they would. On those cards, UD could take any hologram numbers they wanted as they did not have to match a COA.

You guys actually believe there are 20 to 40 cards which are fake because they don't match some sequence and don't have a COA?

I'll believe that when I see my THIRD pairing of duplicates, fakes next to real ones with the same /89 numbers. I say three, because if there are all these fakes, surely we can produce three. There may be one or two jerks clever enough to pull this off but I would need 3 examples at least to convince me there is this big conspiracy to produce fake griffey 2009 auto buyback cards.

I think its much easier to believe you are dealing with a company, who often is in a state of chaos and keeps little to no records of what they are doing.

Just my opinion based on my individual experience of closely examining cards , including authenticated cards without COA's and speaking to Upper Deck about the situation, about which I find their responses almost laughable- THEY DON'T KNOW!

brinn, heres a couple UD email replies
(question)is there a way of tracking the holos??

what other cards are those type of stickers on?

(answer)Yes, again, we are working with e-Bay on it. We do not believe they are authentic.

(question)i find it odd that all the odd ones either the coa card was lost or misplaced

but with the holo stickers, seems like the were at UD at one time no??

(answer)We believe they carefully removed these holograms off lesser valued buybacks.

(question)i dont think you have ever got any removed?/ whats up with that beckett graded one??

(answer)We believe that 13/89 and 81/89 are highly suspect. 49/89 is legit.

its just ODD all the NO COA ones the XX/89 numbering and the auto DIFFERS SO MUCH than the ones with the COA's

Brinn1,

Do you honestly believe that the signature on all the cards without COA's looks anything like the signature on the cards with COA's? How about any other autographed card in any of our collections? Have you purchased any of these cards without COA's?
