Good point. And one I'm struggling to find a solution to. I don't want a mix of graded and raw. It's going to be one or the other for all cards. Although I don't feel great about it, I may crack a few of these open since finding replacements will be incredibly difficult. These are the cards I have graded:

1989 Bowman Tiffany 9.5 (plan to sell)
1993 Finest Refractor 9 (plan to sell - replaceable)
1997 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals 9.5 (crack open)
1997 E-X2000 Essential Credentials 9.5 (this is the tough one. I can't bring myself to crack this one open. Not with that grade. Would love to find a raw replacement. Easier said than done though...)
1997 Upper Deck Game Jersey 8.5 (crack open)
1999 Upper Deck Encore UD Authentics (crack open)
1999 Upper Deck MVP ProSign 9 (crack open)

.....but to play devil's advocate, you a) run the risk of damaging those slabbed cards - I've heard BGS slabs are a pain to crack open - and as you mentioned, b) would have to crack open two gem-graded cards, one of which is notorious for condition sensitivity. Without looking up the population reports, you and many of us know just how rare it is to not only find a 97 essential credentials, let alone one that is graded gem. Having that card alone in the PC at gem could be enough to justify not cracking any of them and grading all you have to achieve consistency.

But which route is easiest and most cost-effective? Tough one there. Go raw and you have to to crack open (risky) and make a big call with the gem(s): keep them until you find a replacement (fun for the chase, not as much for the wallet, haha) or sell them just to buy their raw copies. Go graded and you don't have to crack any, but the cost of grading all/buying future graded cards can add up and be somewhat annoying with the constant submissions.

It's a nice "problem" to have though!

Cracking open graded slabs is pretty easy. Dschol, if you haven't done it before, get some practice with a couple of low value cards first. I have all my cards in nice cases for that uniform look and remove them from their slabs all the time.

I'm not going to crack open the Essential Credentials. I just can't. It's the only one ever submitted. I couldn't do that to their population report. I'll have to find a raw copy and buy/offer 9.5 as trade. At least my other graded cards aren't pop 1's so I'm more inclined to crack those open.

I agree 100% with your uniform look policy. Wish I would've realized it sooner lol. I've done it a few times without damage. I will certainly exercise extreme caution and care with these cards.

I think the Ink gold /24 is going to hit close to 900

Not sure about the Glove Auto /25 I've only ever seen a couple of those and it/s 1/25 (no hole or writing on glove though)
Still thinking it's going to hit 700

Love sitting back watching these auctions - always great to see the spike the lats few minutes too.

Not my decision, but if it was, here is what I would do.

1989 Bowman Tiffany 9.5 (plan to sell) - DONT CRACK... obviously
1993 Finest Refractor 9 (plan to sell - replaceable) - CRACK. 9s aren't especially premium. Ungraded mint ones sell for more than graded 9s, especially if they are centered. People pay more for a possible Gem 10, than they do for a definite 9.
1997 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals 9.5 - if this is BGS 9.5, trade/sell it towards an ungraded version. I believe the Gem grade is a pretty significant premium and you can probably make a hundred or two on a swap.
1997 E-X2000 Essential Credentials 9.5 - DONT CRACK. EVER. Keep it until you can get an ungraded mint copy. See above.
1997 Upper Deck Game Jersey 8.5 - CRACK. People don't care about the grade on this card. In fact, an 8.5 might even hurt.
1999 Upper Deck Encore UD Authentics - CRACK

Also, something to consider when displaying autographs - Don't. If they have exposure to a lot of light, or a little light over a long period of time, the signature fades from the beautiful, bold blue to a brownish-green turn smear.

I've always looked at overall especially with gameused/auto stuff (I understand if it was 24/25 jersey number than yes. Did a bit of google searching and found this pic of one numbered 12/25 which I've seen before on others boards. Personally I like the glove that shows more from the glove (i.e. the hole and gold writing)

Just kind of curious as to what your inputs are on 1/25 jerseynumber/xxxx or in general color of game used how it effects values.

Definitely don't crack the Essentials, as it sell for double the raw. That's funny there is only one, because I bid on it 2 times in like a couple week period. The first time I was outbid around the $650 ish mark I beleive.

There is a guy on blowout who has a BGS 9 97 precious metals who is looking for that 9.5. You could prob do a cash trade deal then break out. If interested ill

Well said. Those are my thoughts exactly. Great minds think alike! Ultimately, finding a raw (or PSA for that matter) 97 Essential Credentials will be the biggest challenge.
