I always forget how nice those cards are. I picked one up back in 2006 and when I got it it had little dents all over the upper right corner. I was fairly new to ebay at the time and didn't know what my options were, the seller denied them being there when he shipped it. I still have that card. Great pickup.

For a card numbered to /10,000 they are hard to find..

Latest on fraudulent Black Ink Auto RC 2009 Buyback Griffey

Hi all,
Just an update on Beckett authenticated black ink auto Griffey buyback 2009 card (try saying that 3 times fast).

I got a message from my Beckett contact yesterday saying all was approved and the card was back on his desk. He said that all that remained for Beckett to be able to reimburse me for my purchased card, was to sign a claim which he was sending out at that time. He said as soon as he received the signed claim, the check would be sent immediately.

So looks like some progress after weeks of dealing with the company, and hopefully I'll get my check very soon (next week?)

I will let all know when payment is received.

I will add that Beckett has been fairly easy to work with, and although it has dragged out a bit, they have been quite courteous and helpful.
That said, When I insisted they make payment before I sent them the card, they refused and said they could only reimburse me after having the card. Some one asked about insurance in a previous posting, and YES they are insured for these kind of things and the insurance co. is the one who will write the check. I would also say that given I probably had the highest end fraudulent Griffey auto card they have ever authenticated, it was in their best interest to be helpful and courteous to get the card back. But they would not back down on the card first / payment 2nd arrangement. They actually said if I insisted on keeping the card, instead of shipping it before payment, they would walk away from the whole deal. It's interesting that they would have taken that chance of the card being exposed.

Just to finish up the Beckett thing

I would just suggest that anyone who does any private dealing for any authenticated card, keep very detailed email records. They had to see every email exchanged reguarding the purchase. Of course with a simple ebay transaction, that would probably be enough doccumentation along with the paypal receipt (which I also had to provide). I learned a lesson alot of you maybe already knew, but Beckett and probably PSA etc. make mistakes when they authenticate cards. If that mistake is uncovered, and you have all the supporting documents, you should not have a problem recovering your purchase amount.
Thanks
Steve B

The buyback fakes are geting worse. 6079audrey is getting clever now, he has sold at least 2 of the fakes before. Now this, it has a COA
[ebay:3bbe8od0]160346420128[/ebay:3bbe8od0]

Notice that the COA does not say AUTOGRAPHED 1989 Rookie Card like the real one,

[ebay:3bbe8od0]270419118897[/ebay:3bbe8od0]

Looks like they are using the ones from the Gold BuyBacks....At least make the auto look respectable
looks like that, but the gold cards dont have holo stickers on them,
UD REALLY needs some sort of data base system
upper deck had this one ended ;)

I did... :D I got lucky and saw it within minutes of being listed...

I thought the price was on the higher end, but not out of the normal price range for that card. Also the old BGS label made me think it would close to gem condition, which I must say if I were to take it out and resubmit, I wouldn't expect anything less than a BGS 9.5 with a 10 for the auto. The subs were 9.5 for corners which was big on this card. I have seen about 6 or 7 of these and only 2-3 of them have been in mint or better condition, most of them have 2 or more soft corners.

Isn't this the same seller that sold Brinn the 13/89 that beckett authenicated?

Sad to say but, "yes" it is the same seller. I posted awhile back, after Brinn posted his auto buyback, regarding my '94 UD Mantle/Griffey if it was authentic or not. I got it from the same seller and was glad that UD confirmed my card was indeed authentic......whew!
