How come these are so easy to fake?

Jack
I think one guy is responsible because of the similarity.
They are easy to fake, because you just take a Griffey Rookie Card, forge the auto and the "20 years" and the number, then take a hologram from another UD Card and stick it on the back, then say you lost the COA.

Finally scanned these together and thought this would be the appropriate place to post. How many of you guys have one?

I had written this seller on ebay to tell him his card was fake based on our sequencing etc.

This was his reply

Thanks for your concern. I just got word back from upperdeck that the card is authenic. I had to send them scans of the card and it was reviewed by upperdeck and they have declared it authentic and that the serial on the back is correct.

Thanks for making me aware of it since I would have like to get my money back if it were fake, since I have just purchased it on ebay and now need to sell to get my money back. If you have any other questions email me and I will be happy to reply.
Thanks
James

THIS IS THE EBAY AUCTION I AM REFERING TO- ANY THOUGHTS? ROY?

KEN GRIFFEY JR 09 89 UPPER DECK BUYBACK ROOKIE AUTO

Item Id: 330355405787
End time: Aug-29-09 18:03:01 PDT

Steve, all we can do is put out the research that I have done. It is up to each collector to make his own judgement. As far as UD, I have no faith in anything they say. They can't say that their holograms can be removed and put on other cards. This would make all of their buybacks suspect, which I believe that they are.
Card number 45/89 has been listed 3 times on Ebay. The first seller sold more then 1 of the fakes.

Thanks for the comment about the 1/1's. I have about 50 or more of those still to post and then there's the rest. It seems like I'm always bogged down and I'm sorry for taking so long but I will keep trying to get the rest of the entire Griffey collection up on the home server site SOON. Just keep checking the "signature My griffey link" and hopefully you will see much more.

Also, I'm still experimenting with the home server and hosting my own web site and bypassing photobucket and all SO PLEASE ANYONE WHO IS HAVING ANY TROUBLE GETTING THE COLLECTION TO COME UP, USING THE LINK PROVIDED, PLEASE PM ME AND LET ME KNOW.

Thanks
S

Hey - it's rob from Australia, correct? I think you're onto something. Griffey has hinted that he'd like to play another year if possible. The question is would the Mariners want him back? I think they'd take him, but he'd have an even more limited playing role than he has this year, kind of like they're using him in the second half. It'd be more for team chemistry.

Griffey is actually performing well this season. He's right on the expected down-turn that comes with age and without chemicals. It reminded me of my favorite article about Griffey of all time:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/11/sport ... score.html

I say the Mariners take Griffey back in 2010 (he's then played with the M's in four decades!!!) , he hits 8 more HRs, gets 25 more RBIs, then calls it with somewhere around 640 HR, good for #4 all time.

I'm hoping he plays long enough to eclipse 660 Home Runs, good for #3 All Time.....

3rd?

Oh, I guess it needs mention that we don't count those whose shoe size grows at age 35 on the all time HR list

I'd like to see him get 3,000 hits as well...

That will take 2 more seasons. I would rather him get that milestone then
the 661 or 700. 600 / 3000 is a short list.
I can see 1 more but 2 might be a stretch?

I gotta admit that it's tough seeing Griffey struggle like he has the past two seasons. However, I would like him to seize a little more history than he has already. If anyone deserves it, it is Griffey. The guy still has fun out there. Last year, at a Reds game, everytime he ran out to RF he had to JUMP on 2nd base and laugh. It was hilarious. Go Griffey, Go!

I checked pretty much all of the big Griffey collections throughout this thread, and saying I'm impressed is an understatement. I noticed the majority of collections consist of autos, which is outstanding. I plan on doing the same.

Do any of you guys collect the casual base or insert cards at all? Normally I am a quality over quantity guy every single day of the week and go all out for the autos, however there are the few cards I grew up with that were/are iconic to me.

I started collecting in 1991. That was when I was introduced to baseball cards. I was 11 years old. Running down to the corner store to grab a pack of 91 Score baseball was the highlight of my day. There was one card that year, that to this day just makes me smile. Talk about triggering great memories of your past through one card... You can get this card for less than a dollar these days, and seeing as how I'm just starting out collecting Griffey, I'll start out where it originally started for me.
