Hamels plunks Harper... later admits he did it on purpose.

Except it's not old school. Old school would be hitting him after he did something to deserve it. Harper did no such thing, except play hard (which is old school).
Harper's done plenty. His rep preceded him to be sure. This was "Welcome to the bigs. Don't get cocky yet." Harper responded in the best possible way both on the field and off. He passed this little test. Respect!

To channel Mike Rizzo, this was fake tough---fake old school---by a misguided pretty boy pitcher that rides a carousel with the safety strap latched, carries a pomeranian (or whatever dog that is) around in a backpack, wears affliction shirts but wouldn't throw a punch because it would mess up his manicure, and likes to pose with random interracial childen in a bed.
I wonder why Rizzo is of that opinion? What does Charlie Manuel think?

And everything you say about Hamels is true, which is why I like that he was the one who did this, in the first inning no less. He then took his beaning. Respect!

Again, I love it all around. Baseball needs more emotional storylines, and the networks need reasons to show games outside of the AL East once in a while. This rivalry is going nowhere but up.

This thread, like this sweet beaning incident, is why baseball is so freaking awesome

I knew you would love that high pitch voiced panzy...

Come on Jeff. Cole is soft as baby ****. 80% of these boards could whoop his A$$. If he couldn't pitch, he would be on project runway.

This soft ass ***** is going to polish his World Series MVP trophy.

Yeah, and Wil Perdue has 4 championship rings, big deal.

Oh and Cole's mighty heat, was brushed off like Jamie Moyer's change up.

Ha ha, I like that. I also kind of like this angle.

Good point on Will Perdue, too bad he was never on the verge of a contract with this many zeros $100,000,000.

Have you seen my wife? She's the blond.

Gotta get home.

First, I stand by my Original Post, no problem with it, and I think Harper handled it correctly and it didn't matter who won the Game. I actually root more for Oakland and Arizona more than Philly anyway. It didn't deserve a Suspension IMO...

But I do think Leyland's "outrage" about it is kinda funny. Wasn't he the Manager in that Beanball-Fest last year with Anaheim? :???:

Now Rizzo has been fined by MLB? That's just stupid.

Only part of this story that I disapprove of.

Dusty Baker was talking about the way it used to be. In the early 1970s, fearsome Cardinals right-hander Bob Gibson, nearing the end of his career, had hit the Mets' John Milner with a pitch in the game that day. In a Spring Training game. That evening, Baker went to dinner with Hank Aaron and Gibson. Aaron asked the pitcher why he had he had thrown at Milner. "Gibson said he heard [Milner] could hit and wanted to get him in line," the Reds manager related. "I was hoping he hadn't heard much about me, because I could hit more than Milner." And that's the way it was.

Read that and thought of this thread. Turns out Bob Gibson probably would have hit Harper.

I love stories like that. That being said, Cole Hamels will never be mistaken for Bob Gibson.

Who cares if he ascts like that off the field. Seems like alot of people are obsessed over finding his faults. Useually that is a sign of insecurity. So with that i say GO COLE!
