Hanley back to Boston?

There is no price too high for Hanley.

He was dealt, got Beckett and Lowell, and the Sox got a championship. That deal has paid for itself. I don't care which prospects get thrown in (I don't count Lester as a prospect, and he might give me pause depending on the package) - give Florida their pick of the litter.

My thoughts exactly.

If Boston was willing to shell out 160 million for Tex, why would we think they wouldnt be willing to deal Jacoby, Lester, and someone else?

Jacoby will not be a monster, power hitting OF. He also has to deal with Bay being added, as well as Chris Carter, JD Drew, and Van Every (who will probably not start unless he has a monster ST). This is pretty good depth in the OF, and leaves room for Jacoby to be traded

Jon will probably not be higher than #3 in the rotation for more than a few years, especially with Buchholz to compete with.

Same goes for Clay. He is in the same position as Lester, and might be a #5 starter or bullpen guy for a the forseable future.

Even with Bowden, he is in really the same spot as Lester and Clay

Hell, they just got Brad Penny...so that puts them at:

Daisuke
Beckett
Penny
Wakefield
Zink
Bowden
Lester
Buchholz

All these guys can be starting pitchers, so, why not move one of them along with an OF like Carter or Jacoby?

Hanley would be a major upgrade over Lowrie and Lugo, and would be about as good an addition to their lineup as Tex wouldve been, since now they could probably keep Lars.

A deal that sends: Lowrie, Jacoby, Clay to Florida for Hanley and maybe another smaller prospect sounds like a decent deal to me

I just can't fathom that the Marlins would do such a deal. It's awful for a player of this caliber.

It's just one scenario of many that could be a good deal.

I wouldnt see Florida getting more than three players in return, especially if Bowden or Lester is involved, but, Oakland got 6 for Dan Haren so nothing would surprise me

IF that deal would EVER happen it would need to be Ellsbury, Buchholz, Bowden and Lars Anderson for Hanley, which I would do in a heartbeat. Theres only a few players in the Majors like Hanley and replacements for those the Red Sox would give up are there.

Lars- Youkilis stays at first and the Anderson factor is filled.
Ellsbury-Red Sox can sign Matt Holliday to play center or move Bay to center and Holiday to left. Reddick can fit in there somewhere as well when hes ready if you cant sign both Bay and Holiday.
Buchholz- is at best their 5th starter and with the Penny signing, for the next year at least is a non factor unless Wakefield retires or someones hurt.
Bowden- See Buchholz.

No chance in hell i would ever do that if I were a sox fan. 2 possible top flight pitchers, a power hitter which everyone thinks is one of the best in the minors, and a great fielding/speed CF who might lack a great bat. I believe the plan is to move Youkilis to 3rd when Lars comes up. If you trade Lars, who plays 3rd? Beckett/Dice-k/lester is a great 1/2/3, but why trade two players who can fill the 4/5 spots with 2/3 spot talent? It just makes no sense to me.

I'm sure he's among the last people they want to deal, and they'll avoid it at all costs. For a talent like Hanley, though, they may pull out all the stops.

I believe the Sox still have Lowell for the next 2 seasons. I would then move Lowrie to third after hes gone. It hurts to deal Buchholz and Bowden should they turn into top of the rotation pitchers, but I think its a big if, to turn down a player of Hanleys stature.

Something people need to remember is that it is the Red Sox we are talking about. Yea, it is great to have prospects like Lars to fill in for Ortiz when they put him out to pasture, but the Red Sox have the money to go outside their organization. They're not too far off from the Yankees in terms of spending ability, and can sign a big name free agent to replace guys. They do not have to rely on prospects developing.

Pretty much a draw between Hanley and David Wright
Carlos Quentin/Milton Bradley/Chipper Jones/Kevin Youkilis were all better than him last year.

All-around player? Easily top 5. I'd rather have A-Rod, Pujols, maybe Wright (I'm taking about building a team around this player).

The 51 SB to 35 scares me, was it just an off year or will he not be able to achieve 50+ SB again? 35 is pretty dang though either way. I really think he can go 40-40 in the future.
