Absolutely amazing. The Braves looked dead and buried two weeks ago or even just 4 days......Hanson ran his record to 11-4 and is now a lock for rookie of the year no matter what happens the rest of the season. In only 20 starts in the majors Hanson is 11-4 and two of those loses came in rain delays when he didn't return after the 2nd and 5th innning, not to mention the blown saves in his starts.
The thinking was once the Braves were eliminated from the wild card race Hanson would be shut down immediately to save his arm. Well he looked fresh and poised and except for a little rough 5th inning allowed just 4 hits in 7 innings striking out 7 and only throwing 97 pitches.....he gave his team the win and gave his bullpen the rest they need for the final week and a half.
Hanson has 11 less starts than Javier Vasquez and 12 less starts then Jair Jurgens yet he trails Vasquez by only 4 wins for team lead. Throw in the fact that he has a 1.50 ERA better than Derek Lowe (tied for the team lead with Vasquez with 15 wins) it shows you why he is the most important cog in their stretch run and will walk away with ROY honors.
Hanson may not pitch later this week due to being mathematically eliminated and AJ Happ for the Phillies will likely lead all rookies in wins (at home against a 8.44 ERA opponent Astros) , however Hanson amazing first year in the bigs will not be overlooked by voters.
