Mickey Mantle would love the kid. How many guys that claim to love Mickey Mantle are huge *********'s that hate Bryce Harper for being awesome!?!?

I met Mantle a number of years back at a signing (1993 I believe), and honestly if Harper's first name isnt -

Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Jose Cuervo, Johnny Walker, or Ben Franklin

....then Mantle didnt like him or anybody else for that matter. He was a bitter, mean, and down right A$$wipe that talked crap to & about the kids in line waiting to see him.

As for Harper, maybe he will be great & maybe he wont. Like all others in the minor league...It can be the longest job interview in sports.

A fun read to this point with all the name calling and what not, but it leaves me thinking....

Why do the haters hate the kid? Is it because he's cocky and arrogant? If that's the reason then I'd like to know more than just the statement. Obviously we saw the kiss already posted, but we really don't know what the pitcher was doing or if he was provoked at all by the pitcher or what was being said as he rounded the bases. No matter what happened, the action lacked maturity and humility. Are there other specific incidents or examples to show that he is truely a ******? Maybe, but I'd like to see more than just the blanket statement of arrogance thrown at the kid without anything cited for me to agree. I'm not defending him. I don't follow him. I don't care either way and I'm not a prospector looking to get rich off his cards. Frankly I don't care if others hate him or post about it, but I'm probably not going to be persuaded to thinking he's a jerk as well just because someone posts that he is.

Blowing kisses, talking smack, getting pissed off... all while having the skills to back it up. It's awesome. At least he's backing it up. It'd be another thing if he were hitting .178 with no HR's. I have no problem with a supersized ego if you're going to perform like you've earned it. If he gets humbled later on, fine, but he's destroying these pitchers and their responses have been to throw at him and try to get under his skin.

Dont get me wrong, I like him as a player and root for him, but he is digging an unnecessary hole he will have to live in for next 20 years.

At least he's backing it up. It'd be another thing if he were hitting .178 with no HR's. I have no problem with a supersized ego if you're going to perform like you've earned it. If he gets humbled later on, fine, but he's destroying these pitchers and their responses have been to throw at him and try to get under his skin.

Just barely saw this on ESPN. He should be plunked for doing it? He did it because he got plunked. It would be tough for anyone not to rub the homerun in if you take it in context. That being said, we could discuss that he still should probably mature a bit, take the high road and just let his game do the talking.
