To do it you would need a lot of baserunners (which requires bad pitching), several atbats (bad pitching), and of course bad pitching. If several have hit four in a game I think it will happen with awful pitching, but it could easily take 100 years.

It will never happen.
I would think it's equivilent to say...a 27 strikeout performance.

They are both possible, but the odds are extremely slim.
I'd say 27 strikeout is less likely than this, that would be AMAZING though to watch...Even though they would probably have to give up 10 runs to do it.
I believe it has happened in the minor leagues once. Would be pretty cool to see....I guess we will have to wait until LaPorta gets called up to the bigs to see it happen. ;)
Fixed ;)
1. I was talking about Strasburg getting a 27K game
2. Bryce Harper is the new Matt LaPorta

This is true. The batter has to have a lot of luck a lot of skill and their teammates to be on also...

But if you think about it homeruns are more common then they were back in the day, we do see a lot of multi homerun games and there has been over a dozen 4 HR games....Sure it's a reallyyyy small chance it will happen but it is possible. Everything has to right all in the same game. It would be quite a feat

If the game evolves in the next 100 years as much as it did in the past 100 years it will happen annually, but the way things are now it will just take a full moon and whole lot of luck.

"The reason I have been pitching poorly is because I am trying to allow a player to hit for the home run cycle. The Yankees are too stupid to realize that that's what I am trying to do (despite me hand motioning to Girardi, Molina, and Posada to try and break the language barrier), and the hitters cannot hit many home runs off me for whatever reason." This was translated from Japanese and was said by Chien-Ming **** after his 3rd straight poor performance. When the Japanese reporter asked if he would try and do this during his 4th start, **** replied "No comment."

That trailer park at 130 and 168
Jeremy Burnitz almost did it back in the 90's. He needed the final shot in the 8th or 9th inning and only then realized what he was in the middle of and crashed back to reality and didn't hit the home run. I forget if he needed the solo shot or two-run homer at that point. And I think that Ty Gainey did it in the Texas League in the late 80's or early 90's.

Gehrig and Cameron came close to 5 each. Gehrig was robbed of his fifth by Al Simmons at the centerfield fence and Cameron hit a shot to the warning track.

I remember ESPN and other sport channels all went to Cameron's at bat.

From Wikipedia:

"Though multiple home run cycles have been recorded in collegiate baseball,[8][9] the only home run cycle in a professional baseball game belongs to Tyrone Horne, who stroked four long balls for the minor league, Double-A Arkansas Travelers in a game against the San Antonio Missions on July 27, 1998.[10] Brian Sprout, a former St. Olaf College Ole, Division III All-American and former minor leaguer, once hit for the home run cycle in order. In a game back in 2002 against Augsburg College, Brian hit a solo, 2-run homer, 3 run homer and grand slam in 4 consecutive at bats. This is the only time in history that such a feat was accomplished."

I remember hearing about the one in 2002.
