Have a question about a case break situation

I only do case breaks in my store (done a few, none recently) nothing online so I'm not soliciting, but have a question.

Keep in mind that nearly every single collector in my breaks are basically like friends AND customers who frequent my store regularly.

So with that in mind, how would you handle a situation where a multi autographed card is found picturing players on different teams?

As a note, this happened in a break last year and the two collectors are friends so they decided to sell it and split money.

I think most breakers either flip a coin (or similar random chance) or have a system established before the break such as the card goes to the player pictured on top or most to the left, etc. Important part is just making sure everyone knows the rule before the break begins. If it's a tiered break or teams are not all priced equally, some breakers give it to whoever paid the most to get in the break. They all have merit

I think andrew does first player pictured top left sets the team for the card.

I personally would do a randomizer or coin flip to determine the winner of the card
I dont like the top left option as you may never have a chance at a multiple auto/game used card
I just think both holders of teams pictured should have the same chance at the card

I think the bolded part of Brewer Andy's reply is the most important thing. Some sort of random assignment would seem to me to be the fairest and most reasonable way to handle it.

My thoughts are...

1. Everyone going in should know the rules if something like this happens

2. If #1 isn't in place, probably randomize whatever is pulled and make adjustments next time

Really if it were up to me, I'd flip a coin or randomize in the example you gave. For the rules going forward, I like Andrews rule for player closest to too left BUT it does kind of suck for the guy who loses because of where the player is on the card versus a coin flip which at least shows he had a chance lol.

Good luck. I hate the idea of selling the card and splitting the $ because one guy might actually want the card for the PC or something.

If one guy wants to keep the card I'd think they could easily come to a fair price and have him buy out the other half of the card.

2 players on the card, I put both team names in random.org and hit it 3 times, that is how I have been doing it for a few years now.

Really? I thought you did player closest to top left?! At least that's how I thought we did it when we did the million box break of '90s stuff lol

A friend of mine does breaks and does the following:

If it's a team break, and there are 3+ autos on the card, if a single person owns the majority of the teams featured on the card, they get it. Example: Card features Cardinals, Cubs & Reds. If team buyer A has both the Cubs & Reds and team buyer B has just the Cardinals, team buyer A is the winner.

If it's a dual auto, they put the names random.org and roll the dice to see how many times to random to determine winner.

Same scenerio could play out in division breaks.

As stated, guidelines should be in place and known before the break starts.
