Koufax had six great years and not much else. Hamilton could easily have six great years and not much else.

Koufax had 6 dominant years. A historic run. Hamilton has not had 6 dominant years.

I'm not sure what you aren't getting. No one is comparing Hamilton to Koufax nor Hamilton to DiMaggio. No one is saying that Hamilton is equal to or better than Koufax or DiMaggio. We are comparing the shortened level of dominance (as compared to other HOFers) in the era they played, REGARDLESS of what the numbers are. It's strictly about the # of years they played and dominating the league while they played. That's it.

That is the difference, Koufax and DiMaggio dominated, Hamilton so far has not dominated. Look at his stats and compare them with Pujols, Miggy, Braun, ARod etc. He hasnt dominated the way Koufax and Joe D. did.

Thank you!

To add to this, the reason those to are in the HOF is because of the numbers they put up, albeit in their respective time frames. Hamilton isn't even close. So to put those two names out there as some sort of means of comparison (or whatever you choose to call it) just because the number of years they played doesn't work.

No one is saying that Hamilton should be in the HOF right now. What the OP was saying is that if Hamilton has a few more superb seasons (say 5 or six) that he has a shot of getting in even though he will not hit any of the major milestone numbers based on his self-imposed shortened career.

He would have to have 5 or 6 monster seasons.

That's really the only opinion I was looking for. Mostly everyone else is assuming I'm putting him in the HOF already. What stirred this thought in my mind was the historic season he could and mostly will have (regardless if he gets the Triple Crown or not, he's going to finish with BIG numbers unless he gets hurt) and his past, nothing more.
