So please tell me, what exactly do you think Fielder is saying in that picture?

Do you really think he is saying "Here is a tribute to Mike Cameron's dad for a hard days work?"

I already acknowledged that he either doing it out of defiance OR an act of gloating victory, either which I consider poor sportsmanship.

Celebrating a victory is poor sportsmanship now? Don't see the logic there. UNTUCKING his shirt is gloating?

What about skipping? Is that showing up the opponents? Clearly that's what's happening here:

Sorry, I'll just add one thing and let it go. I was at the All Star Game yesterday, and wore a Brewers hat. I was asked multiple times why they show up the Cardinals by untucking their shirts.
I explained that 1) it had absolutely nothing to do with the Cardinals and 2) the inspiration behind it.

Every single one of them thought that was completely reasonable and that people and the press had made way too much of it given the reality of things.

This is probably the game where the image was from:

Sounded like a pretty important game.

The article referenced Fielder's actions after the home run derby. This picture is from a game in September (in the link), not the Derby. You can't say from that picture he was "showing up" Pujols, as this picture was evidently taken last year.

I hope Fielder and the Brewers rip off their jerseys on the field at Busch next time they beat the Cardinals.

WHO CARES?????

fielder923.jpg

Anyone with a weak stomache.....ugh

Reading through the thread, I wasn't going to formulat an opinion or say anything, but after seeing that picture.
That is not pulling off the jersey to respect a hard day's work. That is clearly disrespect, showing up Pujols.
I never had any opinion of fielder before this thread, but I will say I do now. IMHO that is worse than anything Manny has ever done.

It is clear, at least to me, that this has been going on before the HR derby? He is definetely "ripping" it off in defiance of something, so I am sure the HR derby wasn't the first mention of it....that is clearly a blatant effort to make a statement. "untucking" a jersey in itself would mean nothing to me, but here it is clear he is basically telling someone to f'off, even if it is just 'BRAGGING about a victory". Just very poor class imho.

I would think and hope that the manager would stand up and say something to his troops, unless they want to be looked at as "the tough boys"...and maybe that is part of their game plan. Maybe baseball will end up like hockey...could be a whole new game....

You really see that (a defiant act)? How can you be sure? You can read his meaning so well that you can tell he is telling someone to F' off??? How do you know he wasn't just celebrating a HR (I know K.Gibson for example would violently swing his arms as if he were beating his imaginary friend, & if a still frame were taken of him in that moment it would look like he was pissed; yet in all actuality he is just celebrating an accomplishment or triumph for he & his team)....

Anyone can read into something & pull out whatever meaning they want to take from it (100 people could look at a picture & when asked what they saw in term's of "what is going on, taking place in this picture?", most would describe something totally different from the other...unless of course the individual's first overheard someone else describe it, & then thier description's would take on a life that very much resembled the first description that they overheard)- this is what's going on here as this picture was posted in this thread & although it was taken long before this issue was ever an issue, people within the thread are trying to justify all the ways that this picture must relate to the topic of this thread (it's only link is it is Feidler untucking his shirt, which I'm sure he does every game....but people seem to now think this picture was proof of his defiance towards Pujols'). ::facepalm::
[/quote:37ur7lra]

Please read ALL my previous messages. I said either defiance or gloat, but NOT tribute to mikes dad. Probably gloat more than likely...[/quote:37ur7lra]

I still say it looks like Fielder looks as if, with his gritted teeth and all, that he is purposely acting something pre-planned out rather than "excitement of the moment".

If it was like a joyous moment of victory, it sure doesn't look that way to me. Looks more like, "you can't tell me how to act". Do they "untuck" when they lose too?

Well, i will give it the benefit of the doubt. I think it is showing the other team up, but maybe I am wrong. We will see where it goes on the field and in the news if anywhere.

I can respect what you claim to be seeing from the still frame (but I'm not sure you're taking into consideration that this was a milisecond frozen in time & there may not be anything behind the untucking or the face he's making). we are only seeing a piece of what was going on, so many meaning's would change if we saw an extension of that picture & there was a R&B band behind him "rapping", as he would now obviously be dancing in the picture...See where I'm going? With that VERY minute moment caught on film, can you really take all that you said you take from that picture & expect to be correct (I don't think so, as there are way more factor's to be weighed)? :D

Excerpt from editorial...

"After every win, the Brewers collectively untuck their jerseys prior to going through their congratulatory "high-five" line.

Doesn't sound like the "thrill of the moment", but more a "statement".

Also, I still dont get one thing.
Is it a tribute for a hard days work, or a statement of victory?
If it's a tribute for a hard days work, wouldn't they untuck on a loss too?
Do they only untuck for wins, or at the end of every game?

I guess every team should have their own unique "victory dance" . It is a form of gloating.

This was in September 2008. Do we even know if Pujols had started his little "respect" campaign that early? Jeez. I can't believe we're arguing over something as trivial as untucking a jersey, just because Pujols doesn't like it.

If anyone thinks this is a tribute to Mike Cameron, and not just an act of defiance, i think there is a little bit of denial going on.

I can't believe this thread is still active and on the first page of FCB's Baseball Board.
