person who did it, did so out of greed OR spite

either way, they are probably sitting with a smile as they read this

maybe time for new ebay id
(is that allowed?)

There is always an element of Greed whenever a prospect becomes HOT, or a card is listed at a lower than market value and then someone alerts the seller to that point. JP had an opportunity to buy the card outright at the BIN price, but chose to try and assume a better deal, which, unfortunately didn't pan out. I've had it happen to me a few times; didn't like it, but I just tried to get a better deal and shot myself in the foot in the process. JP, don't be mad at the seller, it's your thing. You probably alerted him to something.

Now, if the seller just jacked up the price because YOU were prospecting, then I see your point. That would be spitefull. Because I am known here in Atlanta and have had a shop for 20 years, I can say this has happened to me many times at local card shows. Can be very frustrating, when looking for cards for customers, the local card show dealers jack up the cards because I am buying because they suspect me of knowing something. They are wrong 90% of the time!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I juat wish to opine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the record, the prospect I made an offer for has been having a consistently great second half, so I seriously doubt the seller suddenly woke up and decided to raise his price.

This happened to me once with an Adenhart. A seller listed an Adenhart that I had been waiting for since the products release and he decided to list it 4 months after his passing. He missed the boat to sell at the outrageous prices they were getting and I made a more than reasonable offer. He countered with an offer that was 1 cent lower than the BIN and sent me a message saying he guarantees the BIN will be hit. I replied and told him that I was one of the 2 biggest Adenhart collectors out there (seanc being the other) and that the BIN would never be hit for that amount. I also sent him my bucket link to show him I was a big Adenhart collector and he proceeded to raise the BIN. My fault I guess since he probably thought I was desperate to get it. Anyway I offered 3 times and was declined twice and ignored once and each time I offered $10 less. I was out of offers and probably on his crap list so I had a buddy of mine offer him $10 lower than my last offer. He then proceeded to email him and tell him the previous high offer was $100 higher than his and if he could match that he'd accept. Well we chuckled and responded by declining his counter and leaving a message saying you should have taken that offer then because there is no way you will get that much for it. I let it sit for days before having another buddy offer $60 lower than my lowest offer and he accepted it. I saved $100!!! :D

JP I would look into an alternate route of buying things off of ebay. Can you block the links that are on your feedback screen?

I'd rather not be known as a rat. The purpose of this thread was to find out who here have had similiar experiences.

You made time to complain specifically about said seller, but wont name him?

Youre not a rat, youre doing others a favor so we dont deal with him in the future

Believe me, I would have no problem outing someone who ripped me off, didn't pay, or anything else considered serious.

I don't consider this a serious problem, just a nuisance.

One of the reasons why one needs to be careful when boasting about steals and such

Sellers might be turned off and refuse to sell in future

I am not saying this is the reason why in this case but it's a thought that popped in my head in past when there have been posts by others bragging about how they bought at ________ and flipped it at _______

I don't believe I'm guilty of boasting about steals here.

I'll post maildays and sometimes reveal how much I paid for cards, if asked.

Boasting, though? If you can show me an example of this, feel free.

JP, I mentioned in my final sentence that I don't think this is the reason in THIS case (since I agree that you show off more of your stash than boast about the price you got it at) but one can only try to guess what is in the head of another
What might be an innocent showing off a card to one person might be a "quit bragging" to another person
Again, just trying to speculate since it is quite oddd what the person did

I am the seller. I raised the BIN to spite JP, because I hate him.

I'm the founder and president of the non profit fashion organization Die Denim Die. JP is hindering our efforts to rid the fashion world of the stonewashed blue devil known as denim. We WILL NOT stop until JP has been eliminated.

Just remember, if this JP fella can influence the prospecting world, he can influence the fashion world. We don't want a nation full of people dressed like Canadian loggers

I had a somewhat similair experience, although the price change happened in a cardshop. Owner has a card I really wantted with a $25 price tag on it. I knew the card was selling for $60+ on ebay. So I ask to see the card, and knowing I'm getting it, I say ok ill take that one you can leave it out while I look at some other stuff. Next thing I know, while I'm looking in another display case, the owner is on his computer, on ebay, obviously changing the price as he puts a $50 price sticker over it and puts it back on top of the counter. I'm like...wtf is that? He says ohh you wanted it still? Well ill still sell it at the other price then I guess. I bought the card but there's no way I wouldn't have unless it was something I really wanted.

I think it's safe to say JP is well known enough now to influence the prospect sheep. Just glad he drops his knowledge here for us. I would hate for it to come to point JP can't even comment on guys he likes anymore and have to go the W route and cloak himself in mystery.
