How are people saying none? The question was if you HAD TO invest in one, not "Would you invest in any of these guys?". :)

I chose Price, but I might have gone with Weiters if I had thought about it more, because he's a hitter, and because of his position he could be an All-Star every year.

My choice would be Weiters or Heyward.

Reasoning: Play in small market teams are will have very little pressure on them to perform and will be given every opportunity.

I think Price will experience growing pains. Red Sox, Yanks, Blue Jays, White Sox, Angels, Texas, etc. His ERA will take a pounding. He is in the spotlight now. All eyes are on him. So is the pressure "do what you did last year!".....can he?

Price has more pressure than the others...for now. He also plays in a small market though, but has a good team around him, including what might be the best rotation in baseball. So that will take a lot of pressure of him simply because he won't be counted on to carry the team. Weiters just won MiLPOY and is seen as the head of a coming youth movement in Baltimore, and as the savior of a franchise. Heyward will be near the top of nearly ever prospect list heading into 2009, will be on every watchlist for MiLPOY, and Atlanta isn't a small market and has the pressure of a recent legacy of developing talent and winning. Heyward will probably be rushed up and will be playing in his home state.

For the sake of the Orioles and their fans, I hope not. They've dealt with enough recently, a big letdown(atleast early) with Weiters would be pretty devastating.

Moustakas.

Not sure too many people realize how difficult it is to hit in the Midwest league compared to Carolina where he will be next year...He can easily put up .300/25/100 next year...

No a horrible investment would be the roided up 5'6" catcher in your sig....

I chose Mous.... Still VERY cheap for his elite auto (only rc auto from 2007). He is still at a price point where there is a TON of room for growth...

I went with Moose, because I think his stuff is cheaper than the others.

You can't go wrong with any of these guys, but I think one game with 17Ks by Price will jump his cards up to crazy levels next season.

Not on the list, but I feel a nice Cap Anson 1888 N162 is the best investment....or any player from the 1886 N167 set. Modern values go down fast... Short term they are fine , but the market is changing.

I think this is somewhat true. I picked Price from the list, and I think that he's the safest shot at a nice ROI as I think his cards are fairly cheap based on quantity and what he has shown to this point. I've seen a tremendous amount of talk on boards like these about how so many guys are going to pay off with huge returns. I know that there are a couple of people who made a real nice amount of money in prospecting, but I'd love to see spread sheets of people's investments to see how people have really done...

There will be a LOT of money to be made off of every single one of those guys, anyone can quote me on that right now.

EXACTLY!!!! I dont understand how the OP can say none of them these guys can potentially become absolute stars

To be fair to sheetskout, he didn't at all say they wouldn't be stars. I'm trying to read his mind, and I think his point might be that there are better, CHEAPER, guys that could give you a better ROI.

I picked Lars simply b/c Boston fans are like a mule with a spinning wheel; you'll have to be a geek like me to get the refrence. That, and I'm always weary of pitching prospects. could be i don't know enough about pitching, or it could be that they seem to get hurt more and/or figured out more.

Exactly. If a prospectors goal is profit and risk minimization, then there are about 100 better investments I could list than the guys mentioned here.

Hive had it right, I didn't say anything about their talent, current prices, or any of that.

You said that they are horrible investments. That infers that you were considering their talent and current prices, at least I hope so if you are a prospector.

O's are keeping Wieters in AAA for at least a few weeks. Big difference between Gordon and Wieters. Wieters has far superior knowledge of the strikezone compared to Gordon at the times in AA. Weiters drew more walks than K's while Gordon nearly whiffed a game in AA. Gordon, underachiever, maybe another Carlos Pena breakout somewhere. Wieters, Teixeria at Catcher.
