You'd think with young talent like Heyward, Freeman, Hanson, Kimbrel, Teheran, Beachy, Delgado, Minor, Vizcaino, Venters, Pastornicky (did I forget anyone?) plus a couple of superstar talents like Chipper and McCann hanging around you might be happy with the direction of your ball club...

Brighter future than the Phillies, Mets, and Marlins.

What happens when it comes time to pay those guys?

AT LEAST YOU HAVE THEM!!! Maybe you should take a good look at the Astos current roster and top prospect list. Then come tell me you have it rough. Spolied, spolied, spoiled

The key difference is that the Braves have been long term contenders. It's one thing to suck all the time, it's quite another to go from contending to sucking. Unfortunately that is where my Braves are heading.

you'll lose some of them to free agency. That's where smarts in scouting and starting the service time clock will come into play for being locked into non very lucrative RSN deals.

at least the braves should be seeing an increase in their share of national tv money with another big payday on the horizon when the rights come up for renewal in 2013-2014'ish.

My team is trying to give me an identity crisis!

New RSN - branded CSN Houston in time for 2013. Astros have a major ownership stake. yep, the 'stros are screwed since they won't be able to get CSN and FOX Sports to butt heads on who is going to overpay for tv rights.

Good.

Maybe the Braves will attack the draft in a different way. They are one the teams that will not pay a player over his slot position.

They will have to do it a different way than bonuses. The new CBA that was just signed put in a hard cap on bonuses.

The Braves drafts the past few years have been really weak - particularly with bats. I don't know why they continue to draft low ceiling arms so early (Minor, Gilmartin, etc.) when their system is so thin with high upside bats. I think the Gilmartin pick will look really bad in a few years when we look at the way some of the bats that were still on the board have developed. Mahtook is the best candidate IMO.

Lock down your big talent early, a la Tulo, Longo, Upton, etc. Obviously, you can't keep everyone but a crafty GM will make sure the cornerstones of the franchise won't be going anywhere.

Also, there will always be another new young crop of Braves per status quo. They have excellent scouting and player development so by the time arbitration years come for the current crop the next group will be knocking at the door.

Seriously, it ain't that bad.

Phills got a packed house everyday and a gigantically huge media market that has a baseball tv contract that is about to expire. Comcast county baby. Huge huge $$$$

Sold out stadium for years now+huge tv contract+ownership that has tasted success=forever in contention.

Sorry guys, Phillies will be in the mix every year, like the much hated AL East Sox and Yanks. Tons of cash to spend, awesome modern stadium, and a fanbase that will actually fill the stadium unlike the braves, marlins and nats. Mets, lol.

Well, i'd be with you if they spent on their minors the way big market teams do.

LOL the thread could have stopped after this comment. I think he wins.

as for my beloved braves I think we will be just fine for the next 5-10 years. we are stacking up to look like the 90's teams of ole. Sure chipper will be gone but we will have freddie, heyward and mcann from the left side(like a justice, mcgriff, klesko esqe)as long as pastornicky lives up to his upside defensively and we get someone to fill in 3rd base for chipper once he retires we will have a solid defense and the most important thing we will have 5 arms at the prime of their careers in the starting rotation and atleast 3 bullpen guys(Kimbrel, Venters, EOF) in the prime of their careers. in the 90s we won with pitching, as said before as long as we can lock these guys up early we should be fine for the next decade.

Out of Hanson,JJ,Beachy,Tehran.Minor,Delgado,Vizcaino,Gilmartin,Medlen as long as we can lock up 5 of the 9 and then use the other 4 to get bats. I dont see us being in much trouble. I hope to see them keep Beachy,Hanson,Minor,Tehran,Delgado for the long term. A few month back USA today previewed the baseball season and in the preview they showed every teams projected lineup for 2014, the braves only had a handful of players above the age of 28 including pitchers. I know this all depends on being able to lock these players up early but we need to do it while we have the funds.

I'm a Marlins fan. Only two playoff appearances in team history! How pathetic!

Everyone else quit your bitching!

Quiet, you! The Marlins franchise isn't even old enough to drink yet they have 2 world series rings.

Cardinals fans have had it pretty bad too with such poor ownership. They've only lucked into two World Series championships in the last 5 years. When they've had actual great teams, they couldn't win it all.
