Jim Joyce should take out a full page ad in the Detroit Free Press and apologize to Armando Galarraga and the Detroit Tigers.

Anyone have a link to the call?
Was it the third out?
I missed it!!!!!!!!!!!!

No link that I could find, but umpire completely blew the game.

Ground in between 1st and 2nd, Miggy Cabrera goes to the hole and throws it to Armando covering 1st base. Runner was out by a step, and the umpire calls him safe.

Even though this game still resulted in a win, and didn't affect the game, it should go down as worst call in baseball.

The saying about umpires is so true, that if they are completely unnoticed all game, they have done there job. Way to blow it Joyce.

Re: Gallaraga perfect through 8?

Is there definitely no way the MLB can reverse this? There HAS to be some sort of loophole. I mean, 28 up and 28 down is impressive, but it still isn't a Perfect Game.

Can they appeal the call like the brewers did with CC's almost no hitter?

I was wondering the same thing. I think the difference is that they appealed the official scorers decision. He said it was a hit and they appealed it was really a error.

OMG OMG WTF was that call in Tigers game?

I literally dont even know what to say....BAR NONE worst call in any sporting event ive ever seen. i feel so bad for that kid.....just got out of AAA, pitches a game like that and no good. I really believe a lot of these umps just want face time, tv time, etc...look at joe west....its really getting ridiculous.....these guys decide games and have a major impact on outcomes and thats what you get from a PROFESSIONAL? UNACCEPTABLE....he really should be fired

That absolutely makes me sick to my stomach. One of the worst calls at the worst time I've ever seen.

Joyce owes the Tigers AND Armando an apology at best!

They're not going to reverse anything in regards to a perfect game. If it affected the RESULT of the game, then maybe, but they won't reverse anything for a "milestone".

I don't think he wanted "face time" or anything. I think he just f'ed up and is retarded.

Just goes to show how much pressure there is for everyone in a perfect game... Terrible call, but Joyce is human. For as bad as we feel for Galaragga he will feel 10 times worse.

MLB should just put in replay and stop worrying about the "history" of the game.

I think they should realize this is too important of a call not to do something about it. It's just not fair to the Tigers. Jim Joyce is the only a-hole umpire who has the balls to call him safe.

There should be a website for biggest bonehead umpire ever. Give him his own website.

I just walked in the door and flipped on MLB-TV to see what they were saying about Griffey's retirement to see the 9th inning..

I saw Jackson's amazing catch, then the ground out, and then the worst call I have ever seen in my life!!

I am in shock.
I really can't believe he made that call. I'd figure in a situation like that if it's even close you give the pitcher the benefit of the doubt....the fact that it wasn't even that close makes it even more insane.
