This guy JUST left his Yankees "welcome" and had signed many many autographs minutes before... and you guys are seriously giving the OP grief for asking for an autograph??? I don't know why anyone says anything on these boards anymore when all you get is a bunch of crabby people dogging you. Good job on the the auto dude...

[quote="J.O.":3po2vcgr]people need to understand that these celebrities are people just like you and me.
i live in a town where the majority of bulls/bears players live in or near. I see these players all the time at the phone store, the apple store, restaurants, etc. maybe a hello, but i don't bother them for an auto. it's invasion of privacy. he was in a car, he was done mingling with fans. would you want someone chasing you down the road to sign a baseball?

Not really.

they aren't people!? aliens?

Are you serious with your statement then the following question? I don't think that people should hound celebrities/athletes like the OP, but to say that they are "just like you and me" is a little ridiculous. These people make millions of dollars for playing a game. How many of us can say the same?[/quote:3po2vcgr]

they are people working for a living to support themselves, like you and me. they may make more money, but there are many people that make far more than they do.[/quote:3po2vcgr]

Uh...dude...can we never ever refer to playing baseball as actual work ever again? Please.I will agree with a lot of things but when you have to get up and do what I do for a living...playing baseball would be like a dream.I understand they have workouts and training and the season is grueling and all of that but by no means is it working to support your family. They get paid because they have a rare talent. Not because they are working super hard.Unless you call having to exercise working or having to sign autographs or making appearances work. That sounds like fun to me.Even if gets old after a while...it surely does not seem like pure hell which is pretty much what a lot of normal jobs are.

As for going down the street and catching him at a red light...good for the OP.My wife did the same thing for Brad Lidge and he was happy to sign.

As for the ebay comment and being able to nab these things for $or $2...so what. Its the experience that counts. The OP will always remember how he came by this auto and have a hell of a story behind it to tell.I don't even remember the last thing I got on ebay and it was this morning.Give me a break.

I have no problem with the OP in this situation. I've done this before at the Cubs Convention and after Cubs games. In fact, the players have been very obliging after the crowds are left behind and it is only 1-2 people asking for an autograoh. I got Derek Lee while he was sitting and traffic. If he didn't want to sign my flag, all he had to do was keep his window down.

I think its fine as long as one of the following applies to you:

1. Your under 18
2. You didnt follow his vehicle and just happened to see the same one later on
3. You didnt knock on the window

So if your over 18 then you don't deserve to get his auto?Come on.I agree with your other points but who cares how old you are.As long as it is done in a respectful manner thats about all that matters.

When me and my wife were leaving minute maid one day we decided to go over where the players leave and there were a lot of fans there. We had no luck so we decided to start walking back to our car and up beside us pulls Brad Lidge waiting in traffic.I looked over and noticed it was him and told my wife. She took a ball out and lightly shook it at him and he waved her over and he rolled down his window and talked to her for a minute until the light turned green. My wife is 28 years old though. Is that so wrong?

Yeah...they always sign for the women.Thats why she always gets all the autos and I don't.I usually give her a ball when we go to games and I have my own and then when its time to go back to our seats she has a ball full of autos and I have maybe one or two.Last time I said screw it and gave her a ball and just sat down and ate a hotdog and enjoyed a beer. That was awesome.I got to eat and she actually got a ton of autos and she likes doing the auto thing at games.I think more than half of our autos at games are all hers. Most of mine are from the astros caravan and any of the football stuff.

I may put my GF to work at that, she's small though, I don't want her getting trampled by autograph hounds.

I went to a Red Sox/Philly series in Philly two years ago and my gf was getting autos left and right and I was standing right next to her and was getting skipped over. I finally wised up and gave her the stuff to sign and sure enough, I got the autos.

Women are key. If not for a kind young lady who had seats in the chained off field level area at the futures game, I would not have my Casey Weathers autographed ticket.

Getting autosgraphs are awesome. I dont have any problem with 100 year old people out getting autos at a game or outside the stadium. However, if your over 18, and chasing some players car down the street, thats what I meant I would have a problem with. Outside Fenway, you see kids between 10-17 running after players cars and thats cool but if one of those kids dads takes off after Ortiz, something...in my mind...isnt right.

Casey was great when he signed autos that day. He signed my item with a smile!

You were nearer to first base than I was (I was down the line). I could not get to that area but was happy with the autos I got.

Okay...gotcha.Yeah ...we didn't chase after him.We had no luck with anyone stopping and signing so we just decided to leave.Normally they will stop and get out of their car sometimes and sign for people.I just happened to notice Brad Lidge pull up and was like "Hey...looky there...".I don't think either one of us would have chased him down.

I can see it now "A north Houston man was killed today in an apparent attempt to get an autograph of an astros player.","The man allegedly ran half a block down a Houston city street and came screaming up to a players car window.", "The man was shot repeatedly with a large caliber hand gun because the player became startled and felt he was about to be robbed". "Through her tears the fan's wife told reporters all her husband wanted was an autograph.","Back to you Dave!". :P

Yeah...I don't think I would chase a vehicle down.I have seen a dude do it for Hunter Pence actually the same very day we got the Lidge auto but I said screw that.He did end up getting Pence to sign his Hooks jersey but I wouldn't advise anyone to go about it quite like that.
