In the early mid 90s, did you ever find a big $ card in packs?

Best I pulled was out of 1995-96 fleer basketball. I got a hot pack which had the entire Total O set in it. I think I kept the Stackhouse and got a ton of other cards in trade as the Jordan was worth some coin at the time.

Pulled a Roger Clemens Holoview Red out of 1994 SP. Went on to make the entire set. Decided a couple of years ago to build the 1995 F/X and 1996 die-cut F/X sets as well.

I remember being 10 or so and pulling a 91 Score Mickey Mantle "The Franchise" Autograph. Now, the sad part. We put it in a safety deposit box when we moved to Alabama. For some reason, the box was forgotten about and the bill wasn't paid. A few years ago I went to the bank with the key to see if it possibly was still there. But the box had been drilled. I asked them where the contents go in a case like this, and they said it went somewhere for auction. There was also a dual Magic Johnson/Larry Bird Hoops auto in there. I know for sure those two cards were in there. No telling what other cards were! Still makes me sick to think about the Mantle!

Isn't it crazy to think that twenty years ago, all that had to be done was throw a little foil on a card, make it "harder" than a base card and bam, it's worth big money.

IMO it's because there was no Internet happening then. When something was 1:180, 1:case etc , it took "a lot" of work to find one. That's why there was value as the supply (at the LCS) was less than demand. It could have taken a year to come across something that today seems like its everywhere

Probably the best card I pulled out of 90's wax was a Willie Mays Auto out of 1997 topps, I still have it. It's amazing how tough it was to pull really good cards back then.

I pulled a Puckett Elite from Donruss the first year they had Elite's (forgot the year) and sold it at the National for $150 bucks. That was my best pull until I pulled the Griffey/Mantle autograph from 1994 Upper Deck. I loved that card but one of the kids needed something and I sold it to a friend who has it to this day. Someday I am buying that card back from him.
1991 I believe was the first year of Elites, so your Puckett was prolly 1992

My best pull from that era was Collectors Choice with the silver and gold facsimilie autos. I got a hot pack with all gold sigs, and all big, high dollar names (Ripken, Griffey, etc)

Ended up buying a few boxes from just that one pack.

Didn't really ever pull anything super great. That is a major reason why I stopped buying packs all together. I did pull that Klesko Score autograph "Signed Greatness", which was 1:360 or something like that at the time. it's a $3-4 card now.

I've noticed a slew of basketball being mentioned. I really think basketball easily trumped baseball in terms of actual value for a good while there. Even now the 90's basketball stuff is a whole other galaxy compared to baseball.

Best pulls from the era

Jordan hoops where he's wearing #21 . $1 card now, bit I sold it for $40 back then.

Also pulled big hurt stadium club and nnof RC's. Didn't sell them, but lost them in a 2001 house fire.

Also busted a lot of the wild card product and remember having a ton of the "SP's" from that product. Also lost in the house fire and made me sick seeing the Favre sell for $2K a couple years ago.

I never pulled an Elite although I opened a truck load of Donruss 91 & 92. I did much better with Basketball. Pulled Shaq Ultra Rookie Team when it was a $100 card. I also pulled 93-94 Upper Deck SE Team USA Exchange Set. That was a pretty loaded set and pricey at one time. Also pulled a 96-97 Ray Allen Autographics which I really regret trading for a couple of Vince Carter Rookies. Still Hurts.
