So, been watching MLB Tv and listening local sport radio and the big discussion is instant replay in baseball; while I'm all for using the technology we have to ensure calls/plays are correctly judge by the ump/ref etc; but also, I'm a purist that believes the game should be as is.
That being said; I'm trying figure out how IR would be used in baseball, here are my following points:
1. How many times does a team/manger get to have a played IR'd? And if they get it incorrect then what happens to the team/manager? i.e., in football they loose a timeout. No Time limit in Baseball?
2. Baseball by nature is a game that have a wonderful rhythm; from one inning to the next until the best team wins, no matter how long it takes; and you can't predict when something "Might" happen.
If you would use your IR in say the 4th inning for a play and your all out of IR's then what about that play in the 8th or 9th? Or should there be a limit of how many IRs a team gets; but then how slow will the game become? How would a manager know when to use it? Say for instance Buster in last nights game, if the next pitch happen to result in a double play then did using a IR be useful? There is just know way to determine "what might happen next".
3. If you use it for only game winning plays, i.e, is the run out at home etc..I have no problems using it that way; or for instance the catch that should of been the 3rd our in the 1st Playoff game of Twin & Yanks;
Outside using it for #3; I don't see how it could be implemented wisely and fairly.
Thoughts?
