pete14rose, seems all you want to do is contradict what i say. i stand by what i said but ill state it differently in case i confused you. i know lots of people did it then and understand most of them did. i wish more players since the korean war would have done it. more people (players included) should serve in the military. im glad ted williams gave up his time to serve his country, very honorable.

I read a fun fact that when the U.S. entered WWII, 98% of the professional baseball players enlisted. Really speaks to the charactor of that generation.
i admitted i was wrong, i was more commenting how more players and just plain americans should do it now
Or...they weren't making a fraction of what they make today. I hate to say it but money is what makes the world go round. 27-year-old players are protecting multi-million dollar contracts. But you are right...if they went off to war it would be mainly about character, because it would be a terrible career move. This is not a shot at any people in the military. This is just a comment on how things have changed.

A Pat Tillman (NFL) is a one in a million kind of athlete in today's times.

Not looking to contradict you at all. You're doing s fine job of it all by yourself. You seem to have a knack of making comment/remarks that contradict actual facts. I am merely pointing out the actual facts to you.

You say you wish more would have served back then. I assume "back then" meant WWII and the Korean war. I provided you a list of however many hundred MLB players actually did serve during WWII alone. How many more would you have wanted to serve? The entire league top to bottom? In context to the actual facts of how many did serve, your remark was ridiculous. Sorry, just a fact.

I haven't even listed all that served in the Korean War, let alone those that pulled double duty in WWII and Korea.

Now you say you wish more would have served from then to now? In what? The Vietnam conflict? Do I need to pull out history and provide you with the number of soldiers we lost in a "war" we should have never been involved in to begin with? Or maybe you meant right now in Iraq? You honestly believe we belong there as well and that professional athletes should run to enlist?

All I ask is that you think before you type and perhaps use Google to look up a few facts now and again to have a better grasp on a few details before you remark on them.

That's all. :)

sure, pick on the soldier. have you served? anyway i admitted i was wrong. im so sorry that i made a mistake. please dont kill me

I'm surely not picking on any soldier. And yes, I have served and am a veteran (Gulf). All I'm saying is that in light of what we know to be true many enlisted for WWII and Korea...which, as was said, was a sign of the times. As for today, we have too many soldiers in a foreign land for non-essential reason. That is the nicest way I can put it.

well thanks for your outstanding service. what was you mos? and as for the foreign land for non-essential reasons, lets just say that is an opinion alot of americans have. but not me

MOS was 54-B (since reclassified to 70 something) ... I was NBC.[/quote:336wnaaa]

those nbc dudes worked their butts off during the gulf, with the nbc threat
