Is anyone else surprised no one has picked up Kyle Lohse?

I'm surprised teams like Boston, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City, or Toronto who have protected 1st round picks do not take a shot at Lohse. Or even Pittsburgh who needs pitching to be contenders and has 2 1st rounders this year...

Or how about re-signing with St. Louis? I mean they lost Carpenter for the year...

I guess Lohse is holding out for a big deal?

I personally don't feel like he has much ground to stand on for a hold out give his overall career inconsistency. He was crap at the start of his career and turned it around once he went to a team with a decent pitching coach. Hopefully he gets a decent offer and keeps up what he's been doing.

We have a crap load of pitching in KC and don't really need to sign him. Plus, I doubt many clubs believe he can thrive without Dave Duncan.

It's mainly because of his asking price and him being tied to a draft pick. Lohse is not the player you want to lose a first rd pick over. He also has had very little success in the AL, so many AL teams are weary that he can have the type of season he did last year again.

He really should have accepted the QO, but I'm sure Boras had a bit to do with that trying to get every penny out of him. It backfired badly, but I think Texas will now take a run at him...don't expect a 4/$60 deal but maybe a 2/$26 or something.

Exactly it lowers the dollar amount or pool available for the whole draft. The Pirates already traded a sandwich pick for Wandy Rodriguez

The Cardinals will make out great if Lohse signs a 1 year deal there. Considering Lohse has virtually no leverage he would sign for 1/$13 at best and would probably have another great season there. Seems like a no-brainer if the Cardinals think they can be contenders this season.

Yeah well Cleveland probably doesn't have the money to go after Lohse now and the other teams that have protected picks either can't afford him or are not going to pay that much for a pitcher if they don't plan on contending.

Just because you have two 1st round picks doesn't make them any less valuable. It shouldn't lower a teams willingness to lose a 1st round pick on Lohse

It's not even about the pick itself. it's the Draft pool money that gets hurt. Screws teams from the top down. They lose their frist round pick and lose the flexibility to try and pick up tougher signings later.

Yeah he would be a good signing for the Yanks this year, but it is highly unlikely they will sign him.

I read today that Boras is pushing teams for 3/$48, which is one of the main reasons he hasn't been signed yet.

I don't think Lohse adds much over Phelps or Nova at this point. His track record outside of Duncan ain't great and in the AL East he'd likely get destroyed. They sign him in the $13-15MM/yr range for any duration and he sucks people will be screaming.
