Is it wrong to ask older people for cards?

If you ask him about the cards, and he says he keep them in his basement/black-out van -- run.
They might be in his bedroom...top shelf of the closet

Oh, man. Wear a belly shirt. Those cards are so yours.

tm decomposer: "Hello Mr. Dahmer. Do you have any baseball cards you can give me for free.

Jeffrey Dahmer: "Sure I keep them in the bedroom. Why don't you have a look for yourself"

I have a magnetic sign on my car that says "I want to buy your baseball cards" and my phone # and email address. I get old people all the time and call me to sell their cards. I have been doing this for twenty years. I have made thousands... OK, ten of thousands. The other side is that I tell these people the true value and give them options, I will buy them outright or sell them on the bay at a 20% commission after fees. I do it the right way and let them come to me. I can sleep at night this way...

I wouldn't ask him for any. I'd probably walk over and at least tell him you are a sports fan and at least ask to see his collection. But don't ask for anything. Just be happy with getting to see some stuff you might not normally see. Sometimes that in itself is just as cool as getting anything.

True. My neighbor is a die hard sports fan and can speak knowledgeably about every sport but doesn't collect anything sports related. About the only thing he had was an old Houston Oilers fishing lure. I thought it was pretty cool and next thing you know he's trying to give it to me. I told him no thanks because honestly...what the hell am I going to do with it? I guarantee you a speckled trout or red won't bite on it. In any case he left it in my mail box...I still have it. Just sitting there collecting dust. Nice old fella. We go over and help him mow the lawn in the summer. Its hard on an 80 year old guy to mow in the 100 degree heat.
