Relax. Clearly you aren't understanding what he was even getting at. He is talking about the time between being drafted and making an impact in the Majors. Leake may not be the "best draft pick in 10 years", but there's no need to attack the OP like you are.

While the OP was not completely clear in his initial post, I really don't get why people are so quick to jump on anyone's back, especially after he explained his position. It is interesting that what is a standard draft consideration in other leagues (immediate impact) is not in baseball, but hypothetically, it could become a consideration.

no way is this thread serious. the only reason leake made majors so quick is he had 4 years of college he is a avg pitcher at best and a era of 4 is nothing special any pitcher in the league that gets leakes run support would have as many wins or more i dont understand this love for leake. i mean can we mention younger players that by the time there 23 will have big impacts such as mike stanton freddie freeman and jason heyward . lets not forget kershaw is the same age and were not even mentioning stars like lincecom and price this is a joke leake is a joke and his off field issues only add to it. this guy will be a 3rd of the rotattion starter at best . i cant believe that you can even consider him a top 100 pick in the last ten years thats crazy absured your talking since 2001 wow im sure you can list many many players i means hes already 23 and has 17 wins ( who cares) thats not special . 23 isnt young either when you have 21 yr old i mentioned above performing at high levels and future guys such as trout and harper only gonna be 19 when they are both in majors performing at 23 is expected not great . be for real man mike leake wow why did you even say that? have you been drinking?

As far as immediate impact, Leake is, in my opinion, the best pick (so far, obviously) of the 2009 draft. I don't know enough about the rest of the drafts to think if anyone from another year is similar.

From 2009, only a few players have had any significant impact in the MLB at all: Strasburg, Storen, Leake.

Strasburg's injury hurt his "immediate impact."
Storen has 31 saves over 107.2 innings between this year and last.
Leake is 17-10 with an ERA just over 4 and over 250 innings pitched.

I am just wondering how long it will be before there is a stat created for "immediate impact."

and a journeyman who has bounced around has an ERA nearly 1/2 of that (Vogelsong)
