Is Pro Debut anything more longterm than TriStar, Just etc

This product is nice on the patch side, but I struggle to see long term value coming out of anything else like base cards or autographs. I understand it's a topps product, but surely any 1st Chrome card a guy would have would trump anything in this set would it not? It seems to me aside from the uniqueness & one of a kindness of the patches, the rest of the product is just a TriStar, Just, UD Prospect Premieres, or Razor product with the Topps name, and would hold limited upside. Thoughts?

It is a step ahead of Tristar and Just solely because of the Topps name behind it. I think the major cards are ways beyond the top level cards in previous minor league sets. The booklet patches, Logo's, and other GU cards are great cards imo. Even the 1/1 autos from the previous ML sets weren't anything special. These have the potential to be huge.

The auto's and base parallels are very little, but I can see the base cards being possible flips for the razor exclusive guys

I would put it on the level of 2002 or 2003 UD Prospect Premieres. Those sets were pretty much ignored for a year or two, but 2002 had a Prior autograph, and 2003 had several autos that later came to prominence, Ian Stewart et al. It's a long-term hold, but the extra patches and whatnot make it appealing for rippers.

The biggest plus for the cards long term is that when people look at 2010 Topps Designs of their base cards, they match them.

those 'cut autos' are whatever they are just ridiculous and worse than stickers... the patches i've seen thus far are nice. basically this could have been a great product and for whatever reason they really misfired on the autos.

I could see this argument if any of the base autos were worthwhile. I can't foresee the cut autos (I mean c'mon cut up Aflacs) holding value over future releases of these players. I think the patches will hold value for the guys that turn out to be superstars but I can't see that happening for more than one in ten. I think this is a sell now before the "new" wears off product, especially with the likelihood of a Chrome version, series 2, etc. coming out later. I'm pretty much solely focused on 2010 Bowman right now and I think it will steal any spotlight this set might have come May 10.

Ill tell you exactly how this product will turn out ASSUMING theres no Chrome version to come.

The autos for the most part are crappy, we know that, the jumbo jerseys are nice and can have some nice value for the guys who pan out. Obviously, the patches and even the aflacs can have some very nice values eventually.

But the real sleepers here are, yes I am going to say it, the base cards.
If you take a look, not just a glance, at the base set, you will notice that (if possible) Topps could use the EXACT SAME PHOTO of many players on a Bowman card. That is because of the level the players are in use the same name and uniform of the big league team.

So for example, Take Fuentes who has EEE base (no Sox logo) and autos but lets say he is called up and takes off, think this will be blazing? He is in the Sox uniform with a Sox logo. Take away the Topps name and you would think its a Bowman card.

Or if Slade comes up and does his thing, yes his autos will be totaly hot but this card will get an easy $10 for the collectors who cant spend $100 for his EEE BC autos

Am I to understand all base players will have a Chrome rookie as well this year or has had one in previous years? If there are some Debut exclusives, then I would imagine those base cards could take off until they get a future year chrome.

There really are no rules to who can have what other than the Razor guys who can only be in MILB sets.

Because I'm a little nuts:

2001 Prospect Premieres: Prior, Kotchman Auto's. All auto's /1000. Signed on card up the side
2002 Prospect Premieres: BJ Upton, Prince Fielder, Scott Kazmir etc. Auto's. 1 per box. Trapped sigs
2003 Prospect Premieres: Ian Stewart, Adam Ethier, Adam Jones etc. Auto's. 3 per box. Stickers.

I remember people telling me the 2001 base cards were total utter crap. I had about 1 half 800 ct boxes filled with sets at one point and paid litterally next to nothing for them.

With PP though, most of the players did not have other cards released the same year. In some cases it was years later. The PP cards were considered XRC's so they had RC's later on.

Just a couple examples:

Agreed. I honestly wish I could pick up 100ct lots of my two players, as well as some sox guys. Redsox guys will be easy $1+ per flips, especially of the exclusive guys

Yeah, 2001-2003. It's been a while. But even the base cards of the stars ended up being worth something. When they took off, I was able to dig Ryan Howard and David Wrights out of my 2001 miscellaneous box and sell them for certainly more than whatever I paid for the packs.

As I am not familiar with this set, are the debuts of players in the Bowman Draft or are they from something else like just minor leaguers?
