Is There Any Value In Grading These?

I see a seller is listing his graded batch from the ever-present Base Red back-doored '09 B. sheets.

At least they are marking it as unnumbered.

They've been in Beckett's online price guide as Red unnumbered for quite some time. However they were distributed in sheets as the seller pointed out here on these boards a while ago.

Why wouldn't they grade them? Its not like they are altered or non-authentic.

Of course , these have been documented by Beckett. My point is simply if grading entails an increase in price? But I'm not implying that this was the seller's objective.

This all depends on your definitions of "altered" and "non-authentic."

BGS grades aftermarket sheet-cut cards which most consider "altered" and non-authentic." "Authentic" red parallels were 1/1s.

That is my auction. My initial reasoning for getting some graded were to see if Beckett would grade them. Dont know what it would prove or help, just curious. Before they were submitted, I emailed Topps and informed BGS about what I knew. 100 sheets were sent from the printer to a card shop. Then a ebay seller an hour away from that shop was selling cut cards. (There were more of the other different sheets shipped as well).

Well Beckett still graded them (4) and they never got back to me, nor did Topps. I then kinda gave up on caring. I then hole punched the majority of the remaining cards I didn't send to Beckett and put on ebay .99 start bid. ( holepunched to eliminate someone stamping them) and didn't sell any. 1 lot sold but never paid. I offered to then give them away postpaid, free. Had a few takers and think I have a couple left. I still have the 19 Belliards (unhole punched) and have tried to sell but no one wants them.

Never bought them to profit. Just curious and learned alot along the way. Thought someone might want one graded. In my PC I have many oddball cards that I like to get graded for labeling purposes, protection, etc. Think I paid about $10 for each card that is slabbed (fee+card) and if the Gems sell for my price, that will help offset the money I lost punching holes in the other 40+ I have. If they dont sell, no biggie.

I bought a uncut sheet as well. Needed $ for something and my interest in these declined (mainly due to my disgust for the companies not really caring) so I put it on ebay. Alot more than I paid as it is a very cool sheet. One of those things you already regret selling before you ship it. Couldn't pass on the price I was offered. I didn't research and thought the buyer would keep it whole. Few days after I shipped it, I see it cut up and on ebay...

So I started off curious. Then learned who the printer was and where they sent them and the full scope of this. Made about 9 threads on various boards informing collectors. And in the end I contributed to more of these cut cards on the market.
