It was obvious the yanks would be trading catching in the near future with j Montero, G Sanchez, JR Murphy and A Rominie sitting in the farm system. So the best bet was trade the guy who prob wont stay as a catcher (Jesus) an get the most out of him Pineda. I like the trade for the Yanks

What again is the fascination with Pineda?
He started last year hot, but stunk in the second half.
He had a 5.12 era in his ten starts after the All-Star break.
I have no interest in him or Montero, so I'm just asking a sincere question.
Is it his age and potential?

Thanks Topps!

why our you sarcastically thanking Topps. They didnt make this trade that made Montero collectors cry an Pineda Collectors jump for joy. Most Montero collectors should of sold most the collection with he was called up an hit his first homerun.

Yes. He's good.

3.52 xFIP as a 22 year old with 9K/9 is impressive. You expect guys like him to only get better, especially since he is a known competitor.

Montero is going to bust bad in Seattle, awful ballpark and he will quit trying to stay in shape now. Yankees win hands down and Campos might be their best pitching prospect by this time next year, he sounds like another Pineda in the making.

How does the ballpark impact if he's going to be a bust? He's the exact same hitter he was before he got traded. True power hitters are less valuable to teams who play in hitter friendly parks. Also, why would he not stay in shape now? Is Seattle not going to pay him? Was his pride and professionalism incumbent upon being a Yankee? Hell, if nothing else, Seattle probably offers more healthy dining options than NY lol

Showing flashes of brilliance at 22 years of age = HUGE potential...especially with his size

He had a WHIP of 1.099 at 22! Crazy...

I've been saying that for months.

Now I just have to ignore it since he is a Yankee (hopefully not)

I like Pineda but his whip won't be 1.099 pitching in Yankee Stadium.

What does this mean for Gary Sanchez? I always thought he'd be sacrificed instead of Jesus. Is he the DH of the future with Romine at catcher?

Anyway, now I have one more chance to maximize my Pineda blue BGS. It was "stolen" the first time he blew up. Nothing like getting a second chance to cash in.

It was a joke from another thread the other day involving a probably "nicer now than a week ago" Pineda 1/1 patch auto.

Sanchez, despite some defensive blips this year, has always been considered the better catcher and some say he's an even better hitter. I don't know, I loved me some Montero, but the Yankees have depth at catcher especially with Romine and Murphy, even Greg Bird from this year's draft.

As I baseball fan, I love this. It's a true "challenge trade" with each team giving up a big-time young talent to meet a need. The Yankees know that they cannot win a World Series with only one true plus starter in their rotation, so they went and got a 22 year old with an electric arm. Seattle knows that free agent hitters have very little interest in playing for them and they need a power bat to build around so they traded for one of the best young hitting prospects in the game. It will be fun to see who gets the better of this one.

As for those of you with big time Montero stashes (warning language):

I can't speak for Blanning, but I feel the same way - because Jose Campos doesn't have any cards yet!

He's scheduled to have one in 2012 Bowman, but so much for buying him cheap. Thanks, Topps.

Clearly this is the fates repaying you :)

They'll probably keep Sanchez at C until he proves he's just not an option there.

Actually, it ends up being a great move by Topps. Another autograph that can help carry the product.
