This is pretty much what happened to everyone with a big Montero stash:

Really?

It's amazing how people get this notion that only Yankees sell. The truth is, performance sells, hype sells, and being in a good market can enhance it all. But to act like Montero investors are going to jump off a cliff is nuts IMO. The stupid move would be to get upset and sell now-and I know some people will do so.

Just take a look at recent non-big market guys: Trout, Hosmer, Belt, Ackley, Heyward just to name a few. If Montero hits, it's going to be fine. I'm hoping that with this post I can help save a few lives

EDIT: This is a great lesson to people who prospect players because of the team they are on. Not sure if many people do that, but this just shows that just when you think someone won't be dealt, it can happen.

You're absolutely right about that, but West coast Major Leaguers don't get the pub and hype that East Coast players do. I know Griffey had it, but there's a bonus to guys who play in NY and who WIN in NY.

I really thought Montero was the next big one, more so i thought Cashman believed it to. It's hard to admit i was wrong on that.

And while Pineda's season numbers look great, several people in the thread have already shown that he stunk in the 2nd half, and he stunk against the best teams.

I think the Yanks will regret this trade.

Edgar Martinez 2.0 is a pretty good comp, however i think some folks are sleeping on the fact that Seattle may want him as a catcher. Miguel Olivo and John Jaso are currently penciled in there.

Perhaps fellow Venezuelan King Felix would like to pitch to a countryman?

I already made bank on Montero. I have no clue why anyone who was prospecting him would still be holding after that huge spike last season. Oh well

I just rebought in at a low price - $60 per 08 Chrome Auto - you cant deny they have good potential for a nice return come Spring.

Campos is the key to the entire deal. Got a DM from my scout connection on twitter, told me Campos has better pure stuff than Pineda and can project out to be a 1.

I don't care how much you like Campos, calling him the key to the deal is absolutely laughable.

The amount of revisionist history in this thread is astounding.

Does going to Seattle hurt Montero's prices? You bet.

Does it spell the end? Hell no.

Did Montero have a big spike last year? Nope. There were a few sales of raw chromes as high as $80-90, but they sold in the $60-70 range for most of the season.

I don't want to see any more of this nonsense about how everyone who's holding is a fool. Montero a 22 year old with the best offensive potential of anybody with rookie eligibility, including Trout and Harper. Seattle is a good market - maybe you've heard of Ken Griffey Jr. or Alex Rodriguez? Both had huge followings while playing for the Mariners. His best days are still ahead of him.

Bring on the flames.

Big difference between Montero and A-Rod/Griffey Jr. A-Rod and Griffey Jr. were 5 tool superstars at elite positions. Montero has one maybe two big tools and he's a DH. Looks at Miguel Cabrera prices, his rookies are a great buy and he''s a potential HOFer. Problems is he is a 1st baseman/DH and not a flashy player. Montero card will drop 40 percent this year if he hits .275 with 20 HR's 80 RBI's as a DH.

If his chrome autos drop to $36 I'm going to have a much bigger stash than I already do.

When that happens, I'd like someone to let me know so i can get a few more myself.

i think one of the factors to keep in mind about Jesus' rookie is that they are not available in packs any longer.
