Jim Riggleman has resigned as manager of the Washington Nationals. Riggleman told General Manager Mike Rizzo that he would resign before the game if his contract situation was not resolved.




Way to go ******, who quits on his team after they get to a winning record for the first time in forever. Dont think I have ever seen a manager quit on his team becuase of money.

It seems like Rizzo called Riggleman's bluff. With that said MLB GM's are amongst the worst people in the world and it wouldn't surprise me if Riggleman just hit his limit with Rizzo's BS.

But why would they pick up his option now, the team could collapse in the second half of the year, if the team was .500 at the end of the year and he walked, thats different, but you dont walk out on your team midseason becuase of money

Could not disagree more. I think he should be blacklisted for pulling that crap. Every GM/Coach in the last year of the contract can throw a temper tantrum and quit because they weren't extended? obviously, managers end up taking the heat/credit for a team's performance, so the job security isn't fantastic. but if he thought the team had talent and was playing .500 ball, i dont see why he'd bail with a chance to manage a strasburg/harper type player in the future on a team that is performing better than ever. selfish move in a way, but i can see the personal reasons behind it, and i certainly don't have any insight about the dynamic of the GM/Manager relationship in washington. it's his whole career and life, so he has the right to leave if he wants.

While I think it is foolish to do in this situation, I agree.

Just because more money is at stake doesnt mean Riggleman shouldnt be able to quit if hes being treated badly or ****** around. Who knows Rizzo promised Riggleman an extension and then backed out? Who knows if that happened and how many times? Who knows if Jim punched Rizzo in the gut and laughed at his ass? Alot of things could have and did happen we dont know about. A manager just doesnt quit midseason when theyre playing as hot as the Nats are. Something else happened that drove him to do it.

Will he be blacklisted, probably, but it doesnt mean he didnt have a right to quit.

Hes been on a one year contract since he took over in 2009.

Hes basically been thought of as a an interim mgr. and IMO Rizzo was gonna dump him the second a Mgr he wanted was available.

I mean if you truly have faith in the guy, you lock him up IMO.

Rizzo gave Jayson Werth (on pace for 22 HR, 60 Rbi, and .237 - gee no one saw that coming) $126 million.
That right there leads me to believe that homie's cheese has fallen off his cracker.

Washington has 1 player batting above .280 and Zimmerman has been injured all year and they are still above .500.
If that doesnt warrant a 2-3 year contract IDK what does.

Does the timing suck? Yeah but Rizzo wasnt going to committ to him anyways so eff him!
