Joe DiMaggio Auto - Is this legit?

I picked this up at the FCB National today. I listed it so I could do the PSA "quick opinion" thing. Theoretically I could get it authenticated tomorrow at the national (or in Chicago), but I don't want to do that if it's questionable as I am poor and that crap's expensive.

Anyone with an eye for these things have an opinion?

For what it's worth, the guy I bought it from is someone I know well and I trust him. Getting a refund would not be an issue. To me it looks great. Once I recognized it wasn't PSA or JSA or UDA certified I didn't really focus on the COA it came with. Looking at the COA now, I'm a little less comfortable. The "company" did not come up in Google and it looks pretty cheap. I can scan if it really matters.

Obviously if I wanted to resell (which I don't) then I'd have to get the full PSA/JSA treatment.

Any educated opinions would be very much appreciated!

Received this in the mail today and just opened it up, it isn't authenticated. Sure wish it would have come yesterday so I could have taken it to the show, but oh well.

I've done a lot of research on mine, comparing and such, and I think yours looks legit to me. I'd get it certified if you're looking to sell. If it's PC, then decide if you trust your gut enough, or if you need to get it authenticated.

on one hand, this is definitely something to consider.

on the other hand, it's 2 dots.

on one hand, if you're gonna fake a dimaggio signature this is certainly something you could overlook.

on the other hand, joe could've just left them off.

HA, actually, inspired by the dots thing, i just went and looked at the ball again and they're definitely there.

they're faint, but there are definitely 2 dots around the O, just like in the others.

annnnnd exhale.

I don't know if it's real or not, but I'm pretty sure all the guys who are good forgers (and there are plenty) are smart enough to include the two dots. I love how everyone on FCB is an autograph authenticator.

I wish I was good at Photoshop, so that I could make a mock-up "Certified by FCB" slab! Anyone?

FYI: DiMaggio is a heavily-forged signature by well-practiced forgers. The only way you're going to know is to submit it...

Not a expert at all but do collect auto's balls.

Sig looks fine to me. The super clean ball worries me, especially since its an older sig. Hope it is completely legit because its a beautiful piece. Good luck.

Edit: any idea where the seller got it from? The coa company might help others.

There are some distinct issues with the signature, namely the last name. Typically, with quick opinions, PSA errs on the side of caution and gives them the NG.

this is exactly what happened. "Likely Not Genuine"

Get a refund. And know this is probably why it was unauthenticated in the first place.

Buyer does not accept returns.....Why? Because it failed authentification for him as well!

I would contact ebay and paypal and request a refund (forgery)

i listed the item so i could get the quick opinion. its designed to not sell.

refund will be from guy i bought it from at fcb national who, thankfully, is local.

that is, if i take their advice and dont pursue further authentication.

I'm not an authenticator, so take my opinion for what it is worth, but I wouldn't spend anymore money on that ball.
