These young stud pitchers will make him look completely stupid, just like in the boxing ring and MMA ring. ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

If Jose's gonna try, Ozzie won't be far behind

Ozzie couldn't really make it in his prime so I know he would not try. He only played in 15 games from 1990 to 1993.

I would think he is quietly blacklisted from most, if not all teams. Even if he does have something in the tank and someone took a flyer, wouldn't he have fastballs flying at his ribcage 90% of the time?

I have no problem giving him another chance and honestly I'd route for him to succeed. However, no way in hell he does make it, even if given a fair chance.

The problems I see is that:

a) hes probably burned a lot of bridges

b) he basically admitted in his book that his career was only what it was because of steroids

With testing the way it is and his age, I dont see him lasting even if a team were to give him a shot.

Neither of them should try because they will get pointed and laughed at.

2011 - Adam Dunn (496 plate appearances, .569 OPS), Russell Branyan (146 plate appearances, .665 OPS), Jack Cust (270 plate appearances, .673 OPS), Wily Mo Pena (120 plate appearances, .666 OPS)

If these guys can make a ML roster at DH, why not Jose. None of these guys had over 11 HRs or over 42 RBIs last season. With Jose's explosive bat, he's gotta be good enough for .225+, 15-20+ HRs and 50-60+ RBIs. Only 3 DHs hit over 20 HRs last season in MLB.

There's absolutely no chance he could put up close to even those terrible numbers.

What are you smoking?

His explosive bat of the 90's or his "explosive" bat of 2001 (impressive .258 BA), his last season?

Enjoy the Coronas in Mexico Jose. That's as good as it'll get.

In 1991 at age 45, and a year after being elected to the HOF, Jim Palmer tried a comeback. He allowed two runs on five hits in two innings in spring training, then retired again. I think if Jose tried a comeback today, he's fare about as well. It would be entertaining, and I'm sure even the most strident anti-ped talking heads would laugh about it. But there's no chance. I can't blame him, though. He probably needs cash and it's not like he's going to get a job in IT or anything.

Parenthetically, I'm surprised there were no Palmer cards in the 1991 update sets or 1992 sets. Even though the experiment was aborted very quickly, you'd think it would have shown up on cardboard somewhere. Maybe a rights issue. But I wasn't really paying attention to sports in at that time, not cards at all, and I knew about it.

I'd rather see Minnie Minoso come back again, and I bet he could do it, too.

The guy is a freak of nature (even off the juice).

He's off the juice? I hadn't heard that. Reading his book made me believe that steroids are good for you and help you live forever. He can't quit taking them...

I voted "No way in hell" but I think I'm having second thoughts.... Without Pujols, STL needs a new attraction....add Canseco and bring Big Mac back to the lineup....that would be awesome....right?

They should definitely hire Rickey as well. Those three made a great team! Rickey has played for nearly every team, but never the Cardinals. And after his HOF induction, he said he was ready to play again!

Really though, Rickey aged really well. At age 44 when nobody would sign him, he went and dominated an Independant League for half a season. You know how .304 is a good batting average? That was Rickey's "scoring average" in Newark at age 44: 52 runs in 171 ABs. He was doing so great the Dodgers gave him a shot, and sadly Rickey was too old to play in the MLB at age 44. He kept doing the Independant thing for a couple more years, until age 46.

I don't think that Jose can cut it in the MLB. But.... Julio Franco was hitting home runs and stealing bases at age 49!

Jose only came close to that playing with the Yuma Scorpions last year. If that's all he's capable of in the equvilent of a Winter League team, I don't see much chance of him making a MLB roster.

I was thinking the opposite thing... he's just going to jump straight into MLB? You gotta prove you're still a good player, by playing in an independent league or something... I was really thinking that earlier. If Jose wanted to play in the MLB this year, he should have been playing in an independent league last year...

I think some of you are underestimating the bat speed it takes to get around on Major League pitching.

To say that Canseco might have lost a step in a decade is....well.....beyond an understatement.

The only reason Julio Franco got away with it at such an old age is because he was one of the more intelligent hitters in baseball. He would basically foul off 20 pitches until he got something he could handle.

Canseco did play in an Independent league last year. He played in the North American League, for the Yuma Panthers, which is made up of teams from the USA and Canada. In Fact Ozzie Canseco was also on the team with Jose, who was a DH.
