I made the mistake of watching 1st and 10 on my lunch break and one of the reporters on there said Josh Beckett was the best pitcher in baseball. He isn't even the best pitcher in his own division let alone all of baseball. Am I the only one who thought that was so far off base?

Here is a list of guys who are better then Beckett in my opinion:

Johan Santana
Tim Lincecum
Roy Halladay
Dan Haren
Chad Billingsley
Jake Peavy
Zach Grienke - at least this season
Felix Hernandez
C.C. Sabathia

That is without even thinking about it. I don't even watch ESPN anymore because they don't live in reality.

Over the past 5 starts he is the best pitcher in baseball.

35.2ip, 35k's, 15 hits, 3er

I would agree that he isn't the best pitcher in baseball overall, but he has been red hot lately.

They might have been talking about him just over the past few starts, where he has been hot.

In my opinion he isn't the best starter on the sox, let alone in all of baseball. He has been dominant for stretches, but last year he was just average, and for the first 6 weeks of this season he was terrible. Great pitchers are consistently great. Case and point, Roy Halladay.

Lester. Its close but i give the edge to him. But if i need a pitcher for a game 7, i take Beckett, but for a full season, I would take Lester.

Not the best but certainly top 5-Dan Haren. He leads the ENTIRE MLB in Whip and K/BB. Both are important categories. He is also T-4th in ERA, and will be close to the league leaders in IP after his next start. He also leads the NL in ERA+! The guy is simply the most underrated pitcher in baseball right now. He also gets terrible run support, and plays on a below average team.

Where did all the Greinke-homers go?

Oh, I forgot. He actually IS this year's version of Cliff Lee.

Funny how people jumped off Greinke's bandwagon so quickly...

yeah but how many of these pitchers actually have a team around them to take them to the playoffs and have a CHANCE to win big games...not every one has the boston offense around them

I can see why someone could say Beckett is the Best.

First off, even so, it would be extremely close as there is some great talent at SP in both leagues. However, Beckett has top notch mechanics, great movement and a solid 2 and 3 pitch. When 'on' he is as dominant as anyone who has ever played the game posessing pinpoint accuracy and bringing the heat! Also, his off pitches are superb.

If I were to take statistics and throw them out the window, and simply take the top 10 SP's in the league and audition them, Giving each 20 minutes on the mound, there is a good chance I'd take Beckett over anyone based on talent.

I must say though, there are 5 or so SP's in the league right now who can at any time claim the top spot depending on my mood.

So he will win the Cy young and lead the league in wins?
